Not sure what to make of the 'wins' this weekend

On one hand, Canelo impressively beat Smith, who 15 months ago was the consensus number 1 at 168.

On the other hand, Canelo did a little bit better against Smith than John Ryder did a year ago, a guy who is maybe top 10 in the division? Maybe higher, or lower, who knows.

GGG looked in great shape and great form against a guy maybe around top 10 in the division. Just rolled over him and showed he still has at least something left in the tank.

But if Kamil is top 10, it was very possibly a good matchup for GGG, and exactly where does Kamil fall at MW currently anyway? Hard to say.

No comparison. Canelo fought a top guy in the division and GGG fought another goat herder.

Honestly it is hard for me to rate these wins at present. Part of me feels like Canelo should get some credit; part of me feels like it was another selective pick, after Smith got beaten easily a year ago by just a top 10 SMW. As for GGG, all we know now is that he isn't completely shot. Exactly what he has left, who knows.

      ---

Where does everyone think they go from here? Does GGG move up? Who does Canelo face next?

If your not sure and comparing that bum ggg faced to Callum Smith then you have a lot to learn about boxing

A guy who was just beaten easily at SMW, by a guy (Ryder) who is maybe the same level as Kamil is at MW. Both Ryder and Kamil could be around top 10 in those divisions.

The post was about not knowing exactly what to make of the wins also, not comparing the opponents, per se.

The comparison is intended to illustrate that the quality of the win could vary greatly. Kamil could be a legit top 10 guy. He could be top 25. Smith could be a real top guy at SMW. He could be a shot guy, who did get beat easily by a guy who is maybe only top 10 in the division himself.

GGG maybe has a little bit left. I don't think he'd win a decision against Canelo at this point, but again, the jab is enough to keep him off of him for 12 rounds.

On a purely physical level one guy is in his prime and the other is years past it. Both guys were levels above their opponents but Smith is a level or two above the Polish fighter. I like Golovkin but I hope he retires.
