To be above average and not past his prime. He and his team (and I don't blame him) have developed a great business ability. They has that great I and influence to get the lowest risk fights with the highest reward. They find those names that casual fans can perceive as real treat and after he wins he get glorified.

But when was the last time that he was the underdog in a fight? or was in a 50/50 or so fight in the betting sites or in the expert reviews he wasn't the favorite? well...good look with your research.

The young man as great skills and is one of the best but I can asure you that there are other champions equally as good if not better but don't they have have that marketing machine behind them to come close to Canelo status within the sport.

Because Golovkin got old, but the first 2 fights, he won.

Thanks for answering my question. Nobody.

Beterbiev is one, but then you would have to go suck Clenelo's stick at his funeral.

          Some highlights:

The initially scheduled rematch was called off because Alvarez tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

but the average sports fan has never heard of any of his prospective opponents other than Golovkin.

a fighter in his prime beating up on an old man.

His first major fight was against Shane Mosley, who was too small and too old. Miguel Cotto was too small. Amir Khan was too small and never as good as advertised. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. had his father’s name but nothing else. Kovalev was finished.

Alvarez has taken a number of legitimate gambles and deserves credit for that. But he was fortunate to be awarded victories over Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara, against whom he didn’t show well. He looked like an amateur against Floyd Mayweather

80 plus posts and no one has said what I think is one of the most important tools to beat Canelo.

There are many ways to skin a cat (not sure why anyone would want to skin a cat, but I guess that's how the saying goes...), however, I think the most important tool to defeat Canelo at this point in his career is timing.

You need to be as sharp as you possibly can be against Canelo, and do not let him catch your timing and rhythm. Ideally, you want to get accostumed to his speed without letting him figure out your fighting rhythm and speed.

You need to give Canelo different looks, throw punches with varying speeds, and make him fight more than he wants to.

All easier said than done, but I think fighters with timing like Mayweather and Crawford would be the types that would always be challenging for Canelo. But Canelo is obviously operating at a very high level now, and this is all much easier said than done.

This right here. Somebody who can brawl, throw the kitchen sink (a maidana type) or just someone who has a great outside game. Canelo is going to dominate the boxer puncher types. Canelo is also more cunning and quicker with how he implements his offense.

Thats good point about rhythm. A lot of Canelos opponents aren't as adaptable and after 2 rounds are totally predictable. I think a real slugger, a brawler like Maidana is what could really give Canelo trouble.
The obvious way to beat him though is a fleet footed, runaway outside strategy.. but I don't think anyone wants to see him lose like that 😐

So, either what Floyd did or what GGG did ... plus fair judges.

It's interesting how most posters in this thread are "imagining" a fighter that could beat Canelo right now - some mythical video game fighter that could be built with the right attributes, but who doesn't actually exist in the real world.
