If Smith and GGG lost to Ryder and Devry, “winner” had pointless fights w/ Canelo?

I did not see the Smith- Ryder fight and have no opinion on the scoring, but...

    1) Did Smith have any problems that lead to a sub-par performance on the night?

    2) How good is John Ryder? I'm aware that his record is 28-5 with 16 KOs, but prior to the Smith fight he had won four straight fights by knockout and the "spin" was that he had been poorly guided/trained early in his career and had only recently mastered his craft. What is your opinion?
I haven't read anything to suggest Smith was ill or injured but maybe he was and I missed it.

Ryder is legit top 10, he's improved since his losses. I still think he loses to BJS but would beat Eubank. Don't think he beats Plant but he could give him a hard fight if he gets inside his reach often enough. Could see him outworking Jacobs who looks past his best. Although he's had the run of the KOs he doesn't have great power.
