Is Fury really as great as people make him out to be or is the division just trash?

Wilder was a hype job, everyone knows that. Outside of that Fury has
His Wlad win and that's it.
Id love to see his record if he'd have fought Parker, Ruiz, Whyte, Povetkin etc. The division is strong imo.
This. There’s absolutely no depth to his record. Klitschko was a great win but IMO there’s still a slight question mark over it due to Klit’s mental state at the time. It was an absolute stinker and Fury barely threw a punch either. He never took the rematch and AJ won that fight instead.

And beating Wilder (who also has zero depth to his record) once in 2 fights - I don’t get how people are rating him top 3 ATG based on those two wins alone, because there’s nothing else on his resume.

If he beats AJ in clear fashion, then defends the titles 3 or 4 times against decent ranked fighters then he’d be up there. But right now, no. Just because he’s not stiff doesn’t make him an ATG.

If AJ had Fury’s resume people would cry with laughter if someone claimed it made him an ATG. Double standards.

I find this era to be quite overrated IMO.

Fury hasnt fought the second best boxer (AJ) in his era yet. Wilder was a hypejob who has a inferior resume to even Trevor Berbick. Fury's best win is against Wlad.

Tell me other times one undefeated champion dominated another undefeated champion like that in the heavyweight division? Especially a champion with 8 defenses or whatever he had.

Fury would be a contender in the 80's when Berbick, Smith, Tubbs, Thomas reigned supreme

Other than that, not even a gatekeeper.

He is very fortunate today's HW div is trash

The whole era thing is a bit of a myth. The best ten fighters in the world are at a pretty high standard at any time.

You might eye test a Holyfield or a Tyson or a Frazier and say they're better than another era but they're all different shapes, made to succeed against the fighters of that era.

This is the era of the Super Heavyweights. It will pass, but for the time being we have a group that is not as skilled as the previous eras but it's dominant through size, weight and power.

The difference in a golden era is that you get the fights that determine someone to be truly great.

We talk about the 90s like it was great. We got a fraction of the fights we wanted at the time we wanted them.

This era could be truly great. Fury and Joshua have a few years left in them and won't be playing for alphabets once we get a genuine undisputed fighter. We could get 3 or 4 years of legacy fights.
