He may be physically outmatched by today's fighters but Jack Dempsey's technique and tactics are the foundation of modern boxing.
That is a great book! I learned alot about old school styles from it like The Zombie, which is the style RJJ uses.

    • My gripe with the past is the lack of variety of pro boxers back then.

Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney had to fight the following pro fighters: MOSTLY other white fighters, mostly descendant of Western Europe. Then later on came fighters from Southern Europe (my ancestors lol).

The Ring top 10 P4P and Ring top 10 of each of the 8 weight classes, were all mostly white fighters in that era.

I don’t care what anyone says about “eras”. If you place Jerry West in the LA Lakers today, 2022, with and have him train with today’s sports science and medicine or whatever other excuse people want to bring up…he would still just either be a bench player at best, or not even make it into the NBA.

MLB is the same. Black fighters were not allowed to play in the MLB, most famously until Jackie Robinson (iirc he wasn’t really the first, I think the 2nd). But before that you had black players displaying way better skill and power than those in the MLB. Professional baseball was introduced in South America, Cuba, Dom Rep, and Puerto Rico in the late 1800s. But they weren’t really represented in the MLB for decades after.

I am not saying Babe Ruth sucks. Or Ted Williams was trash. Or Lou Gehrig is overrated.

I am just saying…Hank Aaron is clearly better, faced faster pitches, hit more homers.

Back in the day of Babe Ruth, who’s a legend for great reason, an amazing hitter AND pitcher. They threw “fastballs” so slow, I could have been a pitcher in those eras. Me, with my 80mph fastball at 16 years old…80mph was the average speed of a fastball in MLB at that point. They also didn’t have the variety of pitches that MLB pitchers have today.

The slider, one of the most devastating pitch in baseball, was invented by a Native American.

Boxing is no different. When the top 10 rankings consisted mostly of white fighters if Western and Southern European ancestry…I mean, it’s not Rocket Science why top Ring rankings today have such different variety of races and nationalities. It’s not they just became better a few decades ago. It’s that they entered boxing, period.

It’s also no different than anything else. Rap/Hip Hop? Eminem was the first white rapper to comparable to the best black rappers of all time. Before that? There was very little to no white rappers. And yes I know you can name 10 other white rappers before Eminem. Just like you can name 10 black fighters in boxing when Dempsey and Tunney boxed. The best rappers ever, happen to be mostly black men because there’s not much variety when it comes to race in the American hip hop scene.

I think it’s common sense why there are so many white fighters of the past whose ability and greatness is exaggerated today.

Last week idiots were saying how george could beat byrd how is that when most know a young Ali would outbox george easy

Byrd is the most fancy and flashy mid level hw boxer ever who was harder to hit then the young ali so that doesn't make sense at all
like by saying byrd would lose means young ali would lose to like these people are so messed up in the head and refuse to watch matches or either have bad vision
The 70s and 90s are known as the "golden generations" because popular Americans dominated in those eras.

Ali had a lot of technical flaws and was overreliant on his athleticism. Thus why he turned into a punching bag in the 70s.

Byrd had a nice style, very slick for a HW because he was a blown-up LHW. Old era boxers struggled with southpaws far worse than him.

Foreman was out-clinched by 216 lbs Ali, dropped hard by 220 lbs Lyle and out-boxed by 213 lbs Young.

Yet the forum hipsters would tell you he would destroy 260 lbs mammoths like Fury/Joyce and bully a master boxer like Usyk who is bigger than all three of the opponents mentioned above.

There's not an athlete AN ANY SPORT who did something in the 1920s 30s or 40s, would would be legit in the 90s.

Jack Dempsey was fking horrible and so were his opponents.
                - - I'd pick Jack in an impromptu decathlon staged in any era, the premiere Athletic event in the whole of Olympic history over U fatboyThunder.

Put Babe on U modern candyboys' vitamins in modern Batting Armor and he's knocking out 100 HRs a season on top of being a 20 game World Series Record setting Pitcher.

Dempsey/Thunder wouldn't even be a fight as referenced in the vernacular, but U being a po'boy Alchemist living in a stink, smoke infested hovel wif no windows playing wif smelting Lead mixed with other metals and chemicals looking for U Fools' Gold has to be the most priceless moment in the entire history of BS.

Oh yea I like that you can see man i like it alot its nice to see people here who don't act blind or crazy

Have you seen anybody else at hw who was as flashy and great at angles like byrd who was a mid level cause I never have

I even seen people say Jimmy was better skilled and more slick then byrd how is that when jim was fought nothing like him jim was upright semi outboxer who wasnt flashy and didnt have great use of defense angles and would clinch alot and fought from range
like these people cant see for that brown stuff in the toilet

Usyk is even more slick then byrd his tech is better and last week I seen idiots sayin how george could beat him how is that when george would be outboxed like these people really are either blind crazy or both its odd

and I have seen mutiple times they will say how george would destroy fury another man who is a master outboxer so that means george would beat a young Ali to doesnt it since fury is similar in style to him oh no they will say cause ali was tougher well a young Ali I can prove by video is not tougher then fury at any of his weights

Foreman never was impressive to me In his young days sloopy slow easy to read wasted shots whats impressive about that?

                  • So let's compare new age fighters from last night in Fulton and Haney to old time fighters like Willie Pep and Roberto Duran.
                    Laughable, right?
