Comments Thread For: Angel Garcia: Danny Just Didn't Let His Hands Go; Not Mad, Just Disappointed [In] Him

ARLINGTON, Texas Unlike the nights Danny Garcia lost a split decision to Keith Thurman and a unanimous decision to Shawn Porter, Angel Garcia didn't dispute the outcome of his son's 12-round fight against Errol Spence Jr.

Dad makes it sound easy, like he could and would have done if he was in there.

He's always been a low volume fighter who thinks he can turn things around with one punch. Nevermind in the inside, wouldn't throw even if you pay him.

Spence's jab caused Danny a lot of problems and Danny is not a volume puncher.

It's hard to envision any scenario where Danny would've won the fight.

LOL right. But honestly this was definitely the first time it seemed like Angel was more disappointed than anything and it was round after round. Usually he's hyped wanting Danny to do this or that or will call BS after the fight on the decision, but not this time. He kind of knew after the 5th or 6th round what was happening and that Danny wasn't going to turn around the fight.

But I don't get why all of a sudden he thinks Danny is going to change his style. He actually did throw more than he usually does but his dad all of a sudden wanting Danny to be a volume puncher is not going to happen.

I loved how during the post fight conference Danny was talking about how Errol's jab was better than he anticipated and how it never allowed him to get in rhythm....For only Angel to jump in and tell Danny the jab wasn't the problem and you knew exactly what to do against it but you never countered back and don't act like the jab was the problem...Danny just laughed and said okay, next question Ha.

Danny loads up on his shots too much, almost as if he tries too hard to generate power. He sacrifices speed and volume for power and that has been his weakness. While he loads up, his opponents double up on their shots. Doing this makes him tire out a lot faster. Instead, he should loosen up in the early rounds and then load up when he senses his opponent starting to fatigue. He needs a new trainer. Would like to see him with Roach or Reynoso.

Angel Garcia is coming to this conclusion, that his son just doesn't throw enough punches, a couple of years, and losses to late. This is one of the reason's why Danny desperately needs an elite corner. His father should have helped Danny address this problem years ago. He wasn't able to help him in one of the most fundamental aspects of boxing. You have to have more punch connects, in order to out score your opponent. This will enable you to win a decision on the judges score cards. Watching Danny waiting to counter punch, and not throwing enough punches in his fights, is frustrating as hell. Anyone who knows boxing, knows that if he would just be more active, he would have more wins, and knockouts. He's got the boxing skills, punching power, sturdy chin, and the stamina. Something is psychologically holding him back, physically he has all the tool's necessary to compete, and beat the elite in the welterweight division.

A big part of it is that Danny loads up too much and sacrifices speed and volume for power. When he does this, he allows opponents to double up their shots.

Danny is to tight, and does load up to much on his punches. He does have to relax in order to throw more punches. In throwing more punches he'll be able to blind his opponent, keep his opponent thinking, and catch his opponent with something that they don't see coming. The punch, or punches you don't see are the one's that hurt, and knock you out. Danny is in desperate need of an elite corner, in order to have a success in his career going forward.
