I got no reason not to believe what these medical folks are saying. And it seemed obvious he had some sort of eye issue so I won't assume Frankie is pulling this outta his ass like others seem to be.

How serious an injury do you have to have before it doesn't count as 'quitting because he was in pain'?
Kind of feels like if he was lying in a coma someone on here would claim he was just being lazy.

Quiting was the right decision! Dubois is very young and has to learn to move his head to attack and counter attack. He just can not avoid the good slow motion jab combinations by Joyce. Really needs to consentrate on defense in order to progress in his career.Last edited by Letmaku; 12-06-2020, 12:46 AM.Comment

You completely dismiss the fact and brush aside that it was more than just pain. A medical doctor just stated had he continued his career was finished and still may be depending on how he recovers. Given the extent of the trauma yes he was in more than just pain.
Whether it’s acceptable to quit, or at what point - is a different question.
Peoples pain barriers are different and I don’t question I personally may have done the same? Would other fighters - Froch, Bellew, Badou Jack, David Haye , whoever - have quit? Well that’s down to the individual.
Personally I think his corner should’ve pulled him out around that point, probably the end of the previous round. I had Joyce well ahead at that point, at best it was close but Joyce was landing jabs constantly and was getting more and more on top.Last edited by Kezzer; 12-06-2020, 06:53 AM.Comment

Dubois fought skillfully, and gallantly, until his eye became a serious issue. Some subscribers to this boxing platform disparage fighters unnecessarily. They act like they would continue a fight even if it left them with a permanent injury, or cost them their life. I've lived long enough to have seen people talk a good fight, but when challenged walk away, or quit after a weak effort. So you can't give their tough talk any credibility. Actions usually speak louder than words, the only time words speak louder is in a court of law. Which in some cases their thoughtless words, and possible actions bring them before a judge to explain themselves. Dubois is no coward, he knew there was something terribly wrong with his eye, and he did what he had to do in order to avoid losing it.Comment

That's why I won't be quick to jump all over any fighter who knows when it's time to pull himself out. They know what's happening in there, and what risk they're taking.
I remember reading a Brook interview and him saying he had to keep lifting his eye with his glove as it was dropping down, and that he could feel the air going in and around the eye every time he took a breath.
Imagine all that going, plus the pain, plus a guy throwing punches at you none stop. In hindsight, I bet guys like Margarito wish they got themselves out of there and gave their eye more protection.Comment
