Comments Thread For: Has Canelo Alvarez Made a Mistake?

By Tris Dixon - If Canelo Alvarez thinks he's meeting the same Callum Smith who narrowly outpointed John Ryder a year ago, the Mexican and his team have another think coming. Smith's trainer, Joe Gallagher, said this week that their short notice preparation is going just fine and that the pound-for-pound claimant better not be overlooking the world's leading 168lbr...

Tris Dixon is becoming the new Breadman. At least Breadman knows his boxing.

Canelo will be just fine. If Smith having a lackluster skirmish with Ryder wasn't bad enough. He got the call to fight Canelo four weeks out from the fight. No way a guy that big has an easy cut, look for him to be drained.

Smith just lost to a guy who is worse than Clenelo and its short notice and clenelo will own the ref and judges. Good luck.

On paper this would look like at least somewhat of a challenge for Canelo, Smith is huge, young and pretty good fighter (I don't judge fighters based off their worst performance)

But I would be shocked, truly shocked if Canelo doesn't win, it'd be an equal upset to AJ vs Ruiz.

Canelo is the top guy in the sport, his team has control over absoloutley everything and there's no way are they taking any chances unless another marquee name comes along, and Smith just ain't it.

Honestly I'm not even that interested in watching the fight, or really any canelo fights anymore, they are almost wwe levels of predetermined.

Callum is far too basic to beat Canelo. And I think his size is gonna be highly overrated here. Callum is gonna need to have the fight of his life for this to be close let alone win or anything like that. He's simply too easily hit & Canelo is too hard to hit.

Hadn't even thought about that. Half his training could be fat camp type bs. And yea that could definitely impact Callum's performance if he has a hard cut.

Smith is just another cherry pick. Clenelo is a smart businessman 🥊
