I must admit though, I had the same thoughts when Loma-Lopez was announced and was evidently wrong.

Vergil definitely needs a few more fights though IMO, would like to see him face someone like Jessie Vargas.
Having said that about prospects to contenders, boxing fans of today have been spoiled by the Mayweather era where everyone he fought at the end of his career was either a sitting or former world champion. For 100+ years boxing champions fought contenders because there was only one champion not 3 separate belts with so many weight classes. I have no problem actually with champions fighting contenders, that’s the way it’s supposed to happen....that’s how Honeyghan beat Curry, that’s how Toney beat Nunn, that’s how Douglas beat Tyson, Spinks beat Ali, Randall beat Chavez etc etc

That was my thought as well....teofimo had the confidence in himself, took a chance and beat "the man". It wouldn't surprise one bit if Ortiz pulled it off. Hes a big, tall, intelligent, powerful welter with an excellent stiff powerful jab that's gonna cause any welter problems, including Spence. Crawford isnt the puncher Tito was and isnt the type of fighter to "ruin" anyone ala el feroz. Even if he loses it"ll be a great learning experience that he can build off of.**** all this marinating bullcrap. Its refreshing to hear promoters and their blue chip prospects talking about fighting the best now...just like Oscar did.I have no doubt, they're genuine about the prospect of wanting it sooner rather than later either and not just blowinghot air. Ortiz will be the man at 147...book it...

Jessie Vargas would be an ideal "step up" opponent for him next though,I agree...

Ok so a contender with 16 fights is on the level of a sitting world champion with 30+ fights, p4p status, 3 weight world champion, who the American sports fan is more exposed to?
        Control your emotions my son....

A guy that "hasn't fought nobody".

Listen, we can all be upset about Crawford's refusal to push himself. But his OWN PROMOTER has said, the guy hasn't stepped up.

So...let's stop disrespecting Virgil Ortiz, because even now, he would be 2x better than the best guy on Crawford's resume, period.

Because it's QUITE possible Ortiz upsets Crawford the same way Lopez upset Loma, for the same reasons.

I completely agree bro, the titles becoming fractured into 4 organisations have really changed how we look at boxing.

Making title defences is no longer a measurement for greatness aside from the HW’s. It’s all about climbing weight classes and winning multiple titles.

How many title defences has Canelo made for example...

I just feel like Teofimo was a little farther ahead. He’d had those tests against Nakatani and Commey.

Would like to see Ortiz have a couple more before Crawford.

Like you I wouldn’t rule him out though, I’m a huge admirer of Crawford but Ortiz has massive potential.

All I can say is that I doubt any WW champion wants any part of Vergil Ortiz for the next 5+ years, including right now....

Make the fight it is simple to do and make Crawford do a 24/7 type of show. His sister is hot and we need to see more about his crazy life.

This would be a hit, I like Oritz dont know he can win but in these times we need good fights

Would be amazed if Spence/Crawford fight Ennis/Spence as champions in '21 and probably not '22 either.
                    Agree with you 100% Steve. (Ennis/Ortiz) *

It's true, Vergil Ortiz is already 2X better than all WW's in PBC, no doubt.
