Roy had the perfect defensive plan last night, Tyson simply couldn't build any momentum on the inside. Roy was totally out of shape, he's as heavy as he ever been, and the ring was very small. There was no room for Roy to run even if he wanted to do. The fight was tailor made for Tyson to knock Jones out and he couldn't.

2003 "pre Tarver" Roy would've dance all night around Tyson throwing all kinds of fast combinations from the outside, I could see Tyson getting really frustrated in the mid rounds. The only chance Tyson had is to catch Roy with his back against the ropes which would never happened with prime Roy.
    Roy could never hurt Mike.

Show me one smaller opponent who ever troubled Mike.

Plus, Mike wasn't some slow plodding George Foreman type. He's the fastest heavyweight of all-time not named Muhammad Ali & maybe Floyd Patterson.

Even the 2003 version of Tyson would be quick enough to get a heavyweight Roy Jones at least a few good time.

Mike wins, as someone else said only big fighters gave him trouble, Roy would have had to run to whole fight and not get caught.
No way Roy would take his punches for 12 rounds, not a chance.
Roy was good, but Mike was still laying out people at the end, he broke Golota's neck with a punch (6'4" 240 lbs) and made him quit.
Roy was just too small and chin wouldn't have held up.

Iron Mike was in a very dark place back then.

            RJJ Wu12 Tyson in 2003.

Tyson (high af) Wu8 RJJ in 2020. That was a bs ass draw.

That layoff was likely good for Tyson's body + RJJ's body had a decade+ more wear n tear & four or five unconscious moments iirc & he's only been out of the grind 2.5yrs.

The style matchup was surprisingly good. I think 2003 Jones Vs Tyson would see Jones handily outboxing/outworking Tyson until... .... .... ****. ****. ****!

Danny Williams fooked up Tyson's day in 2004.

Roy ain't no HW, but he was still Roy or mostly Roy in 2003. Tyson wasn't Tyson in 2003.

Roy, despite being totally out of shape(heaviest he's ever been), was able to stop Tyson's momentum without even having to use his legs. He lennox lewis'ed him with clinches . He gave Tyson no chance on the inside, while clearly being on survival mode. Yes, Tyson is old too, but at least he's fighting at 220lbs which is his natural weight, and his intention was to knock Jones out.

The Jones that fought Ruiz was a different beast, he hit hard and he's hard to hit. Tyson would've been out of the fight mentally within 4 rounds.
I sat back and tried not to address Rooiiii fans...but he got his ass kicked and was sucking wind like he took a gunshot to the gut 2 min in.....this was a Tyson pulling his punches, trying to not throw head shots and wearing sparring gloves...

Please dont use surviving Tyson as some weird moral victory...when the rhetoric from Roy fans beforehand 15 years tyson dont stand a chance

Tyson had the style down pat his total speed and his ability to get low pivot and turn was able to instantly box in roiii with his run for my life roller blades on, with no effort with subtle movements..

As tyson said beforehand I fight at one speed to Roy, he fought roy a million times in his head and knew Roy couldn't fight with that level of speed, pace, and pressure...Roy ain't no point stands a chance

Roy even said to his corner his eye have a hard time adjusting to Tyson speed, this Roy we talking about in spite of how old

Unless it was Jones before the Tarver KO, Mike sleeps him
