If I remember correctly, a lot of people were saying that Jones could beat Tyson after he got demolished against Lewis the year before.
How would Tyson vs Jones have turned out in 2003

I would have picked Roy to beat Tyson if he fought him right after he fought Ruiz. Mike was a shell of his old self then and Roy would have still been good physically at 190 or so pounds. Obviously it would have only taken one shot from Mike to end it but I dont think at that point in time Mike wanted to fight anymore and was only there for the money.,Comment

I would imagine that at any year, those Mike Tyson bodyshots would be gruelling, but that no look chit Roy was doing could've knocked himself out. A little bit too much fat off the pork, to heavy to be affective at that weightComment

Even thought Tyson won tonight, it became clear to me that Jones would've won in 2003, no question. Roy, despite being totally out of shape(heaviest he's ever been), was able to stop Tyson's momentum without even having to use his legs. He lennox lewis'ed him with clinches . He gave Tyson no chance on the inside, while clearly being on survival mode. Yes, Tyson is old too, but at least he's fighting at 220lbs which is his natural weight, and his intention was to knock Jones out.
The Jones that fought Ruiz was a different beast, he hit hard and he's hard to hit. Tyson would've been out of the fight mentally within 4 rounds.Comment

Tyson mangles Roy Jones in 2003.
Fxcking Antonio Tarver, a 175 lber knocked him out a few years later and you telling me that one of the fastest, most powerful heavyweights of all-time wouldn't?
Y'all musta forgot
Even tonight, Roy's 4 years younger, fought more recently and didn't have to lose 100lbs and still lost what should've been a wide decision.
the guys who troubled Tyson were always bigger guys, Quick Tillis, Blood Green, Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield, and Lennox Lewis.
Show me where one smaller opponent or even opponent around his size ever troubled Mike Tyson?Comment

The "Roy" that fought Ruiz is a totally different fighter than the one that fought Tarver.Tyson mangles Roy Jones in 2003.

Roy had the perfect defensive plan last night, Tyson simply couldn't build any momentum on the inside. Roy was totally out of shape, he's as heavy as he ever been, and the ring was very small. There was no room for Roy to run even if he wanted to do. The fight was tailor made for Tyson to knock Jones out and he couldn't.
2003 "pre Tarver" Roy would've dance all night around Tyson throwing all kinds of fast combinations from the outside, I could see Tyson getting really frustrated in the mid rounds. The only chance Tyson had is to catch Roy with his back against the ropes which would never happened with prime Roy.Comment
