      you probably missed this post

my comments, solely addressed the... " but resume doe "... people

style/skills/form... and the eye-test, for ring generalship/ringIQ... resume is a factor, because it answers questions about levels... but it is not the predominant factor

      e.g.
everyone (correctly) rated Golovkin, when he was steaming through total scrubs

this is all just common-sense, no real boxing knowledge required... selecting a P4P list is where boxing knowledge is required... which completely throws the casuals for a loop, because they know that they need a roadmap

Because a diet of low quality opposition can make the "eye test" inaccurate.

That is why the best criteria is a combination of style/skills/form PLUS resume.
True, but then if your resume is full of losses and robberies how much weight can be put on that?

          A split decision against Porter?

I don’t remember Thurman and Brook being ranked so highly

Had he dominated his opponents I would understand, as the cap is still unknown. But we have seen Spence’s cap - the fighter who fought level with post-Golovkin Brook and split decision Porter
Then by that Logic why is Canelo so high up? Robbery win over Lara, robbery draw against old man Golovkin and disputed win in rematch?

Loss to feather fisted old man Floyd Mayweather who was outweighed by 15lbs on fight night?

Unconvincing win over Jacobs who just went life and death with freakin Rosado.

          See?

Anyone's resume can be picked apart easily.

Well you wouldn’t rank Canelo so highly if you believed all of that happened. Unconvincing win over Jacobs is the first time I’ve seen that spin. Lara/Mayweather happened years ago, and were now nearly into 2021. Golovkin 1 I agree was a lucky draw. I have no problem with Golovkin 2, which is probably the best win out of anyone in the sport. Along with wins over Jacobs, Kovalev, Cotto, I have no problem putting him top 5

So why is Spence ranked so highly when his crowning achievement is split decision against Porter, which no one really disputes how close that was? What is the positive spin exactly that justifies him being ranked so highly?

Spence beat Porter as well as Kell Brook and Lamont Peterson when they weren't shot. Throw in Mikey Garcia who was the best 135 lber in the world at the time, I know he jumped up 2 weight classes but so did Rigondeaux.

That's a solid list and Danny Garcia is up next month.

Good combination of "eye test" plus resume. Not enough to be #1 but top 5 for sure.

So you think Rigo was a good win for Loma then?

Ranking Spence so highly is dependent on rating Garcia at 147, and Brook post-Golovkin pretty highly. That’s a pretty big assumption

Lomachenko was ranked high in the P4P lists after that win so Mikey should count for Spence as well.

Yes but do you think Rigo was a good win for Loma?

I don’t, clearly two differently sized fighters. Just wondering what the positive perspective is

Personally I would have added Jake Paul to the list just to piss everyone off.
