there was a time, way back in the day, when a lil guy named floyd wanted to "bring attention" to himself and make himself a superstar...and bob was like "nah man lets promote you as the clean cut all american kid".....lol

I'm certain a Crawford or Spence fight sells much more.
Both are bigger fights than Thurman was and also, Pacquaio's stock has actually risen again after he beat a prime Keith Thurman.
Back then everyone thought it was a cherry pick and that Manny was passed it, but now, after that shock victory, everyone will be tuning in to see how Manny does against Crawford or Spence.Comment

I agree with you. I think it’s a bit more complicated than that though.
With the long history of Arum and Haymon and the fighters they’ve shared that mostly don’t eff with Arum, Arum is not going to be willing to pull his weight in fronting the money likely required to make the fight happen.
I can see a situation where Arum will continue to sabotage this career defining fight if Bud and team continue to verbalize their frustrations.
Arum gets credit for a lot of positive things in boxing history but he also gets his share of criticisms because it’s blatantly obvious. Every fighter that has left him has said the same thing and have the same experiences with their careers. That CANNOT be a coincidence.Comment

Arum is old and will die within next 5-19 years, he don’t give af.
And he’s probably being brutally honest, Crawford don’t make him any money. Crawford has zero star power.
Bud and Spence need to fight each other to boost their career. Quit ducking. Stop trying to rely on a 44 year old part time boxing Filipino senator to give you a name.
PAC is fighting mcgregor.Comment

Arum is right
Crawford is not sellable. He ain't Manny He does not have charisma. Pay per view is the reason Boxing is dying. It fail we are not going to pay to watch a fight 50 bucks. Promoters have been greedy and boxers as well. Not every fight is a PPV neither Crawford vs Spence is a PPV.I will not pay to watch Spence who is also a very boring Fighter. Zero charisma. Same happened with Rigondeaux great boxewr but Nobody wants to see him fight.Comment

60-40 is a fight killer because Crawford thinks he is of higher value than what he is. His best PPV draw was 150k ffs!!! How TF are you going to scream you’re worth more than 60-40 when you have NO FANS watching you! It’s simple business math. Spence is A side because he has double the draw.Comment

Please explain how he's not marketable but his fight consistently have high ratings? His fight with Brook had more viewers than Teo/Loma. Even going back to the HBO days Bud had great ratings.Comment

Arum is 100% correct in this entire article. No one is going to promote this fight and have it done during COVID. It’s not happening folks. We can hem and haw all we like and we can gnash our teeth at Arum as the evil villain but he is correct. It may be years before fans are allowed back into arenas.
Good luck making money off a fighter that’s not known by anyone outside of die hard fans and another barely known but still pulls modest numbers.Comment

Utterly foolish comments from Arum. As I said the last time, it's the fighter's job to fight and the promoter's job to promote. As a fighter, nobody can fault Crawford. He's got a record of 15-0 with 12 KOs in world title fights and he's been not only brilliant but also exciting to watch in pretty much all of those victories. He's consensus top 3 p4p in the world, potentially even no. 1 depending on who you ask. He's delivering pretty much everything a promoter could possibly want in the ring. If a promoter can't sell that then he's a shi**y promoter, end of story, regardless of what his personality is like. Sure, talking can help to sell a fight, but ultimately this is a professional sport, and fans pay to see athletes compete, not talk, and again, selling the fight is first and foremost the promoter's job, not the fighter's.
If I was a young prospect considering signing up with Top Rank, or even one of the other fighters in Bob's stable, this entire episode would have me on the phone to my agent to see what kind of deal I could get with Hearn or Haymon or hell, even Oscar instead. I'd think to myself, is this how I'm going to end up, where even if I put together a great string of eye-catching victories in world title fights and end up near the top of the p4p list, I'm getting shi* on by own promoter for not doing the job that he's supposed to be doing? Even Don King at least made a show of being your friend while he was screwing you. The only other times I can remember a promoter trash talking his own guy while he was still under contract with him was Odlanier Solis' promoter calling him a bum after his umpteenth embarrassing loss and Tor Hamer's promoter publicly firing him over social media after he quit in a fight. There's a strong case for arguing that both of those were justified, but even in those cases plenty of people said it was unprofessional. How much worse is this, when the fighter in question has just posted his eighth consecutive world title fight KO? Everything Dana White said about Arum was 100% on the money.Comment
