Callum Smith has a realistic chance to beat Canelo.

People are reading way too much into the Ryder performance IMO. I think he lost that fight also but he was likely very under motivated and clearly underperformed on the night.

Canelo is definitely the favourite but Smith is not out of his depth in this matchup.

Let’s not forget a clearly past prime but still capable Kovalev won a considerable amount of rounds against Canelo, Smith has just the same if not greater physical advantages and has a lot more left in the tank than that version of Kovalev.

I can’t believe people are hating on this fight, under current circumstances, this is a great matchup. I guarantee it’ll be competitive too.

Good fight. My only issue is Smith never adjusted in the Ryder fight. Never used his reach or circled, which would have got him out of trouble. Instead he got pinned up against the ropes almost every round. That shows poor IQ.

I am with you on people putting too much stock in one performance though. If Smith looked at that performance critically he may be ready to come into this fight without making the same mistakes.

... I might even suspect that Smith under-performed on purpose...

I think Canelo will show he is a class above.

I just think he was expecting to take Ryder out, he kept loading up instead of trying to box.

He completely failed to adjust though, you’re definitely right about that. He’ll have to get the gameplan spot on to have a chance in this one.

I’m definitely expecting a better performance though, Smith has under performed in lesser imported fights. Against Blackledge, and in the WBSS semi final but then raised his level considerably against Groves. I expect him to be **** on it vs Canelo, my only worry is I’m not sure how regular his sparring has been. Big difference between ticking over and being in camp.

It’s a great fight, say what you want about cannello but he dares to be great, he could have easily stayed in the lighter classes and played it safe.
I feel if it’s close Cannello will win on points regardless, Smith will need a KO or a very dominant performance for the win.

I don't think he does, i think Canelo will use him as a punching bag.

Smith is a good fighter, but Canelo is elite.

I can see a close fight with the Canelo vintage dodgy decision win at the end of it

I also think Canelo will be too good.

But it's a very good, bigger man against an absolutely elite boxer. That's enough of a challenge.

I'll be cheering on my fellow scouser.

If you could pick when the surprises and shocks would happen then they wouldn't be surprises or shocks.

Just maybe we get a surprise. And that's enough for me to tune in.

How can he prepare with only a couple weeks?

Whilst Canelo has been preparing for a couple months for this. Is there even drug testing in this? ?
