Callum Smith has a realistic chance to beat Canelo.

Whilst Canelo has been preparing for a couple months for this. Is there even drug testing in this? ?
this. canelo has actually been training heavily all year and probably doping like crazy as well.

canelo team did a good job at also throwing smith off the scent by suggesting a yildirim fight or caleb fight, etc. so callum wouldnt know if he would even get a canelo fight this year at all. so therefore he wasnt training or anything to prepare for that.

and most likely canelo will have rehydration clause for callum.

Yeah, just seen an interview where he says he's been in the gym with hopes off getting Canelo or someone else around that date.

Exactly my point. I see comments talking about "three weeks' notice" as if Smith is just now hopping off the couch to start training.

Do we know for sure that Callum Smith hasn't been training? Because he was mentioned as a potential Canelo opponent a long time ago. And are we sure about a rehydration clause?

Canelo is the one who last fought at 175.

Maybe he has an iron chin, he forces the pace early and turns it into a war with a tired Canelo late? I dunno, just struggling to see a path to victory for him but it could be an exciting fight

The one thing I do hate about this fight is Joe Gallagher will run his mouth before it happens and then run his mouth with excuses after Smith loses
Never been down amateur or pro to my knowledge.

The problem is though man, you’d be passing on MILLIONS by saying you don’t have enough time.

Preparation’s are far from ideal for Smith.

Even if he’s in peak condition, what sparring has he done?

Canelo is the type of fighter you need specialised sparring partners to prepare for.

I think there’s a big difference between training to stay ready and training for a scheduled date.

Smith is 6-3, he's 6 or 7 inches taller than Canelo, this is a very dangerous fight for Canelo.

I get what you're saying, and I would add that preparations are far from ideal for both fighters. Both guys last fought about a year ago and my understanding was that Smith had already turned down one offer so that's not unprecedented. Caleb Plant also turned down what he felt was a short notice offer.

I'm not sure how long Dec. 19th has been circled on Canelo's calendar but I'm assuming that both guys have been training to stay ready like you said and now they have a confirmed date.

Either way the contract is signed so he will have to make the most of a tremendous opportunity.

Yeah that’s basically how I see it. It isn’t ideal but it’s too good of an opportunity to turn down.
