It's ALL over the NSB first page of the forum, bro.

Smith's a bum, Canelo's fighting a nobody, Smith's stiff euro, Smith lost to Ryder, Benavidez/Plant are better ('eye test'), etc.

My apologies, I seemed to have been living under a rock for the past couple days.

I got no gripes with the Callum fight.

I thought we were talking about Liam Smith.

I'm a fan of Bud & Canelo though.

I think it's possible to like both fighters.

My problem is the 'rhetoric' that Crawford should be praised and heralded as the next coming for beating an unranked shell of himself Kell Brook, but Carnelo gets attacked for yet AGAIN targeting top competition (as far as ranking, NOT 'eye test').

People here are criticizing Callum Smith because he doesn't pass 'eye test'. No, he just holds the Ring title. The most prestigious of them all. And he's ranked #1 at 168. Yet that's not enough because he's not an exciting fighter.

The problem I have is that Carnelo is not getting any credit for fighting CHAMPIONS, yet Crawford is getting top credit for fighting the fringe (whether due to age or prestige).

I think you and I can agree that Brook wasn't who he used to be anymore and that he found consolation in knowing that Khan would finally be willing to fight him after that embarrassing performance the other night.

Side note: I thought that Brook and Khan would've shown more heart against Crawford. While I do believe by the time Crawford got to them, they had seen better days.. it is arguable that both fighters quit against him.

While the competition he is facing is not the other current champions, he is making guys quit or stopping them. Just like how people had gripes with Tank fighting Leo, but all was forgiven when he actually knocked him out... fans want stoppages in mismatches. Not all boxers understand this.

Back to Canelo: Callum Smith is credible, but compared to Benavidez & Caleb, he does nothing for me.

Let's not forget that fans are more inclined to be harder on Canelo because he literally can make any fight he wants. He is boxing's number one draw. Every fighter around his neighborhood in weight would jump at the opportunity to fight him. You and I both know that Bud doesn't have that luxury.

All that being said, I wouldn't mind if someone had Canelo ranked above Bud p4p. He is actually campaigning at multiple weight classes simultaneously, which is what the p4p guys of old did.

On the flipside though, given the luxury that his star power allows him to have... the one of being able to get any fighter (except Floyd rematch) in the ring with him, he has demonstrated a rather selective approach.

He has yet to fight Andrade, Charlo, Benavidez, Billy Joe, Plant.

Again, Bud doesn't have the kind of leverage Canelo has in getting some of his contemporaries in the ring.

And that's the problem with modern boxing and why guys like Chavez Jr. are in the situation they're in now.

Guy has over 60 FIGHTS and of those, he lost every top one and only really had 5 of them. Why? Because he was busy sparking out the C-class to pad the record.

That should NOT be celebrated. Period. We should celebrate people fighting champions and top contenders. Because the problem is, when you don't celebrate those people and instead celebrate someone sparking C-levels, you end up with another Deontay Wilder situation.

To me - and this is MY opinion - Crawford is coming up dangerously close to where Wilder was immediately after beating Stiverne. And what happened when the guy got decimated essentially twice?

Everyone turned on him and called him overrated. Yeah, he was overrated. But it took a TOP LEVEL guy to expose that.

Which is why guys need to occasionally at least try to fight top level opposition. And Manny does not count in that now.

What Crawford should have done was force a fight with Swift when he was mandatory and he should be chasing a fight with Porter now that he's mandatory. Either guy would help prove or disprove how good Crawford may or may not be.

The reason he doesn't and didn't is that he doesn't want to turn into the next Deontay Wilder when he can just sit back and spark low levels and have his fans celebrate him.

Meanwhile, Carnelo Alvarez is following the Mayweather blueprint, fighting champion after champion because he cares about his legacy, and gets no credit for the achievements. It doesn't matter that he can command fights - WHY can he do that? Because he's fighting top levels and beating them!

We'll see if Crawford turns out like Wilder then.

He already met his Sconiers (Kavaliauskas), it just took longer.

Now, we need to see who his Tyson Fury is going to be.

anyway i rank Canelo above Crawford. no argument there. ESPN just needs to say that for ratings.
I wouldn't think so since Canelo is the one who last fought at 175. I could be wrong though

Whether there is or isn't a rehydrate clause, it favors Smith. He's huge for the weight.

Carnelo on paper should struggle with this guy big time.
