Gotta admit they ran a good con. "Anyone from 154-168", "Mexican style", "he bullies heavyweights in sparring", "he’s the best middleweight of all time", "Canelo wouldn't make it past 8" etc.
And boxing fans ate it up lmao. Fangirls like boliodogs and bigdramashow really thought he was better than Marvin Hagler. They thought he could KO any champion in boxing's long 200 year history.
So what happened when G finally stepped up in comp? Gets his ass kicked and even loses his "mexican style".

Having watched the rise and fall of Duran, Hagler, Tyson, etc, I knew Golovkin was never on that level. Even back then I could see that his movement was stiff and robotic, his "mexican style" seemed unnatural and forced. His defense was always questionable.
The fact that he refused to ever move 1lb up or down in weight was a major red flag too.
Of course, Sanchez and his team knew this all along and they made millions off gullible fans.
But, why didn't more boxing fans see through their ruse?

When HBO wanted to can Ward in 2013 because he put up such garbage numbers HBO picked GGG as an opponent for Ward and Ward said no. He doesn't even dispute this claim.
Then Ward comes back in 2015 and piggybacks GGGs success by sending him a bull**** offer that would have interfered with his business at 160 as he waited for the Canelo/Cotto winner.
I need two tune ups says Ward then we can fight in 2016. What a crock of ****. Dude couldn't even make 168lbs!

GGG was/IS a good fighter! Did some overrate him? Of course but you can say that about ALL FIGHTERS!
Now I do think you have to give Abel some credit for Helping build up GGG with the entire "Mexican Style" and it was Abel building up the hype, he the one started the Canelo stuff and also started talking about how GGG can beat Ward and Kovalev. He would say a lot of controversial stuff to keep people talking about GGG and it worked!
Without Abel and HBO, the buzz and the interest in GGG is just not the same IMO
But yeah, Abel basically just kept him attached to Canelo as well as Andre Ward who was the #1 Fighter P4P at that time with absolutely ZERO intentions to match GGG with WardComment
