Are you sure the networks can't broadcast other fighters? I know that networks sign promoters to exclusive contracts, but there is no earthly reason to limit themselves to ONLY broadcasting fights with fighters in their promoter's stable. It would be like networks only showing movies exclusively from one producer.

Canelo will probably have to align with Pbc and will have to fight tougher opposition but make less money than he did with Dazn.Comment

He’ll make much more as he will be more accessible to the fans than he was before. He was literally forgotten on dazn. He will make much more through PPV on general exposure alone....and with much better opposition. Let us not forget than taking a 50% pay cut is what dazn wanted to pay him, with a percentage of his money going to the promoter golden boy. If he does go with haymon, he will take home much more of the money including the legendary “back end” money that comes with being in charge of the promotion through a fighters’ own company. It’s precisely how the Charlos and Santa Cruz have mansions that surprised viewers. Canelo knows that hat he’s doing, he knows where the real money is. Dazn clearly spent more than it could afford, mainly due to the fact that Americans didn’t buy into it, and one simply cannot be a star on a stand alone app. Had dazn gotten university grid iron football, Major League Baseball, NFL football, nba basketball, or at least the or a grand slam tennis tournament then it would have been ok.Comment

Matchroom and golden boy fighters who themselves don’t have a direct deal with the network can fight on other networks. It’s mainly the promoters who have deals with the network. Last I read, even Anthony Joshua doesn’t have a direct signed deal with dazn, Eddie Hearn does. There have been matchroom fighters who have fought on ESPN Top Rank cards. Matchroom didn’t like making fights with pbc fighters on FOX/Showtime because Hearn was trying desperately to lure pbc fighters to matchroom and fight on dazn to sell subscriptions....something he didn’t demand of Top Rank fighters. Are you sure the networks can't broadcast other fighters? It looks as though there is enough flexibility to make good fights happen if the promoters and the fighters are willing. Good info. Like Canelo said it wasn't about the money. DAZN was preventing him from making those fights that people want to see. I am not sure he will make less than DAZN was willing to pay. They would only pay the guaranteed amount if Canelo fought Oscar, GGG and a couple of MMA types. Presumably, DAZN would pay the top amount if he fought the likes of Jake Paul, the Youtube guy, and perhaps even Rue Paul -- who knows. We do know that DAZN threw cold water on fights with Callum Smith, Plant, Charlo and other bonafide champs -- go figure.Comment
