Is Mike Tyson the most overrated fighter ever?

I believe so. His pick was when he was 20 -22. Lost to Douglas by a KO be the age of 23 and people say it wasn`t prime Tyson any more, lol.

His best career win is past prime Holmes.

After prison, he lost to every world class fighter he faced. Lost to Holyfield twice, lost to Lewis.

This guy is getting too much reputation. He was Andre Berto of heavyweight division, but people still act like he was the second best heavyweight ever or something. The fact that he is actually the second most famous boxer ever just tells how ****** boxing casuals are.

I think that people who don’t view a Cus D’Amato trained Tyson as a legit threat to most elite ATG’s is kidding themselves.

Tyson was the best combination punching heavyweight ever so he was the best at something if not resume.
He came out of prison and started where he left off winning. He beat people like they'd not been beat before.
So if course you can pick holes but there are a lot of positives

Kind of yes and no. His 80s success was down a bit to quality of opp. The 90s a much tougher era. I dont think for example the prime tyson would have beaten Evander.

However, as another poster said, hed br a threat to any heavy ever and that is true. He lacked in some areas but boy was he great in others.

Man, there have been hundreds of analogous Tyson threads for ages.

Each and every time the pro-Tyson and anti-Tyson factions fight amidst insults and verbal abuses. At the end, everybody remains with their initial opinions, having just wasted a ton of energy that could have been used for better reasons.

On the surface. Politics nowadays is just a theatrical act.

He was the greatest at ferociousness, excitement, punching ability. So there's lots of reasons he's rated highly. Doesn't have to be only one way of seeing things

This is why he the most over hyped of all time.

No other fighter gets the "what if" pass than Tyson.

Tyson is on too many top 10 ATG lists when he not a top 5 heavyweight

That was a great performance Douglas put out that night. He even got knocked down hard in that fight. Special fighters are the only ones that beat Tyson like Holyfield and Lewis. Can't judge him with the stiffs that he lost at the end of his career.

He still gets credit for being the youngest HW to win a title and should get credit for beating Spinks and unifying the belts.
