Wilder definitely needed saving. If he wasn't saved, he may have been killed in the remaining 5 and a half, if what he says is true. Based off of that analysis, I would say Mark Breland done the right thing in throwing in the towel. Why would he want to let his man take any more egg weights to the head, after having his earhole clawed open with some foreign object, and being weighed down by the heavy suit? Wilder would be asking Breland to let him possibly die in the ring. Seems like a dumb thing to expect of a compassionate man, who knows all about the dirty side of Boxing.

I can’t stop laughing lol clawed his ear open hahahaha

But yeah I agree that’s the strangest part of wilders account which is “what happened in there was attempted murder” and the whole “breland betrayed me by throwing in the towel” don’t seem to go together too well if he thought he was getting stomped by a cheater with weights in the glove then why is he so upset his trainer got him out of there? Lol maybe he thought it would have been an honor to die in the ring we all can’t be so lucky to be beaten to death by Tyson fury hahahah

Breland did the right thing. It wasn't just that Wilder was getting beaten up, it was that he had no chance to win. He was being forced backwards and only getting more bruised and bloodied with each round, and any chance of a hail mary bomb landing to change the course of the fight was basically squashed because he was being forced onto the back foot constantly with Fury pelting him from outside of his punching distance, and his legs were completely shot after the first KD anyway. Stepping in to stop that kind of fight where the chance of a comeback is basically zero isn't just the right thing to do, it's the cornerman's duty. Any cornerman who doesn't fulfil that duty just plain isn't doing his job.

Another example: Buddy McGirt stepping in to stop Gatti vs. Mayweather. Even though Gatti had a legacy of big comeback wins, McGirt saw what everyone else saw, that Gatti was totally outclassed and he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of coming back. Sure Gatti probably could have made it to the final bell, because he was a proud man and a tough SOB, but better to spare your man six rounds of pain and humiliation than let him suffer all that pointlessly.

Breland spared him from the inevitable. Wilder was going to get KO’d regardless.

The only coach who I think threw in towels too soon was Buddy McGirt. Outside of that, most get it right.

A pair coming to mind right now are Floyd Mayweather vs Chico Corrales and Carlos Monzon vs Nino Benvenuti II.

I got banned from a thread (by Da Tongue) for stating that he (Breland) did as he should have.

I could see Bayless stopping it because of the knockdowns and the unsteady legs that Wilder seemed to be standing on from the 3rd or 4th on. I know that I will catch sheet for this but I think it was a brilliant call. I never did see the towel though. Good stoppage Mr. Bayless. ........Rockin'
