My dad told me Sergio was leaking oil before that fight and I should have believed him. I was a bit concerned when he wouldn’t let anyone see him actually train on camera, plus I saw a picture of him prior looking very chubby for a guy known for his conditioning. You live, you learn. I wouldn’t want to underestimate Oscar, he fought everyone, and truly is a great fighter with heart. But a comeback against a top guy right away at this age and long lay-off is hard to get behind. I understand if he loses he can say he fought the best and that’s who he is, and maybe if he even over preforms that’s a bit of a victory. But I’d much rather see him in a fight that would be closer on Vegas odds, if there is one. I’m with you, I don’t see anything more intriguing than Sergio Martinez. If not, then just fight Canelo or GGG. He could steal a round from GGG with a good jab maybe. Anywho I’ll believe it when he gets in the ring.
I say let an unretiring guy fight the best if he wants to. Why waste time with a bunch of set ups ?

It's said that time away from a sport is the best thing for a guy. How long is too long ? Foreman and Ali did well. May and SRL as well.

I hope he doesn't so that he's forced to get rid of this abomination. I don't know what he was thinking. It's definitely not a good sign for his current state of mind.

Sure he can do what he wants. But he’s been gone for ages. If there’s a mandatory he should have to pay step aside money at least. Foreman had a long comeback to the top. Leonard was embarrassed by Camacho. I guess no one will know until the fight is over. If he fights a top guy and he gets pulverized, it will use up six months or a year until that top guy fights again. Pushing back any real competitive matches. But it’s prize fighting and if it makes money it will happen. I’m not against it per se, I mean it’s an Oscar fight. But the odds are it would be a novelty event. He could surprise us. I mean you could bet on it if you think he has a chance. Let him fight Canelo? How would you see that going? Would the buzz, hype, fringe fans talking, be worth it? Do you think you would be let down or not? Huge money for both guys. But then maybe you wouldn’t see Canelo for another year. He’s Oscar he’s brought so much attention to the sport and is worth enough money he should be able to fight who he wants. It’s just a matter if you’d rather see him in a fight where he might have even odds or one where he’s +1000.

These unretirees are hoping to get that circus sideshow money. Look at the attention Mike vs RJJ is getting....

If one of these retired guys do beat up a top guy, well, what can you do ? On the other hand, if a top guy beats the living crap out of them, again, oh well.

          Camacho retired SRL and Duran

Nelo would really hurt DLH worse than Pac did.

It all depends. When DLH fought Pac he was drained and his heart wasn’t in the fight game anymore. I still believe he was top 3-5 if his heart would have still been in it. Same with Foreman. He left because his heart was not in it anymore. Next to swimming (from a fitness perspective) boxing is a grueling sport.

Most don’t know but college and Olympic swimmers are doing 2-3 a day practices and they’ve done it since the age of 5 all the way up into their 20’s. It takes a toll and when burnout comes that’s all she wrote. Foreman took the necessary time away and he got his heart back. The talent was still there but what was different was the wisdom that came with it and that comes with time. If DLH’s heart is in it I have no doubt he will train his tail off and could surprise a lot of people. He was one of the greatest during our time and I have no doubt his return would be huge.

              Definitely

              Time away can be beneficial.

When a guy like Maidana announces he's coming back, I mock it. He wasn't all that in his prime.

Guys like DLH and Sergio, I can see them getting some wins. Will only be a matter of time before a young lion sends them back.

Even big belly gun toting Marcos beats Oscar these days I feel like.

I'm anti-Marcos coming back but if this is his one off comeback fight I'd understand it better than his previous comeback plans & would be kinda compelled at this retired fighter novelty matchup.

These old guys! ....Unfortunately when we have sad ex fighters who can't leave this dangerous sport alone and are welcomed back in by some as a circus act this is always going to happen it will maybe unfortunately take a named ex fighter to die before this ******ity is banned ....one death too many in our lovely but dangerous sport. As has always been said throughout time this is a young man's sport , Only the odd exception has proved this wrong , they are playing Russian roulette here.....If some of the public aren't bothered then organizations like the WBC should be!!!

I was indeed thinking at Broner trying to hump Maidana in the first round of their fight, and look what happened to him later on.

At least, given Oscar's penchant for dressing in drag and stuff, Maidana might be the one who starts the action here.
