Usyk has the gas tank to out box most heavyweights I just wonder what he will do when one of the truly big hitters land clean on him. From what I saw Saturday night he may be fun to watch at heavy because there is still questions. I'm no big time Usyk fan I've not bought into the Isyk train but he has intrigued me now.

The only question is, can Usyk take a hard heavyweight punch. If he can, he can beat all of them, in theory.

He has no power to keep the big guys off of him.

This, hes a well rounded under 220 lbs heavyweight. In todays world his weight is still a cruiserweight with the 220 lb limit and a basic water cut.

You CAN still compete at the top level under 220 lbs as wilder showed us but you have to have some kind of equalizer, some attributes that are way above average, wilder has insane power and reach.

Being well rounded with low power is not enough. AJ is well rounded, fury is well rounded, and they are much bigger, larger reach, punch harder, have the stamina for 12 rounds ect.

Usyk can compete in the top 10 which is a good accomplishment but he wont break into the top 3.

If he can out box most heavyweights, THEN he must have better boxing skills than most heavyweights? What I find astonishing, what I find completely mesmerizing 'Is how people STILL seem to believe that Usyk is some kind of transcendental boxer with skills so advanced he could easily out box most fighters'.

Can somebody quote me, and just reassure me that? Uysk has just went 12 hard rounds with Derek Chisora 'That is what has just happened right?'

Usyk skill for skill is not a better fighter than Tyson Fury 'I won't even bring size into the discussion'. And I don't think he is a better combination puncher than Anthony Joshua, he has had two fights at heavyweight and has been hit in both fights 'His skills have not been so great, that he has clearly separated himself from the rest of the pack'.

I understand that this is a boxing forum, and people come together and have differing opinions and perceptions 'This creates talking points, which makes the world go around'.

Some things are clear, Uysk is a solid fighter 'But skill for skill, I don't see him displaying anything thus-far in his heavyweight campaign that will massively worry Fury or Joshua'.

Usyk is clearly not as physically robust or strong as former past cruiser weights like Haye or Holyfield 'Usyk is clearly having issues with the strength of some of these fighters' and his boxing skills have not really been able to negate these drawbacks as much as people would of thought etc

Note: I commend Usyk for giving the heavyweight division a go, the man knows that he is up against it 'This is a giant challenge'.

My advice to this guy is to stay away from Anthony Joshua.....its just gonna kill his confidence when he gets knocked out brutally

Is Usyk an exceptional boxer? Of course...however name for me one successful Heavyweight champion in the history of boxing that wasn’t also a KO beast. There hasn’t been any....other than maybe Spinks (we saw how long that lasted until he met an actual KO artist). There will never be a “pure boxer” HW champion that doesn’t posses KO power. Its never happened and Usyk won’t be the one to do it either. No one is afraid of his power at HW. Chisora was easy to dodge. Wait until he faces a HW that doesn’t throw looping wild shots.

As to his gas tank? Wait until he faces an actual skilled HW that can corner him and then lay on him for 8 rounds with all his weight. Think the man will have that same gas tank? This isn’t CW. These are 240+ lb men.

I agree with this. If his chin can withstand the shots he can outbox all of them.

I'd love Fury vs AJ 1 for all the belts, the winner instantly vacates 1 belt for Usyk to fight Wilder for the vacant belt. I'd take Wilder to win by KO. Fury beats Joshua for a second time, before beating Wilder again. Joshua fights Usyk for the right to fight Wilder. Joshua beats Usyk, then loses to Wilder. Usyk moves back down to CW and looks invincible again in a very weak division. Tyson Fury goes through Dubois, Hrgovic, and anyone else worthy of stepping into the ring with him, before retiring as the greatest boxer that ever lived.

I dont disagree with him having problems with bigger stronger heavyweights. I think he can out box AJ until he gets hit and no chance whatsoever with Fury because Fury is technically more sound with a great gas tank too. I see Usyk giving most heavyweights problems though because of his movement and longevity. No he isn't Holyfield or Hayes he doesnt have the pop either guy had but he does deserve the credit you mentioned for daring to be great.

Good article, agree that Usyk will probably look better/smoother against a more conventional HW. The main concern for me was that Chisora connected solidly several times. 90% of the time Usyk saw the big swings coming but against AJ, Fury, Wilder that would need to be 100%. Can see his fight vs AJ being similar to how Povetkin did, winning some rounds, showing skill, but not lasting the distance.
