  • Comments Thread For: Roy Jones: I Wasn't Like Mayweather, I Went And Got Every Belt Possible

A memorable rail against the sanctioning bodies by one all-time great seems to have drawn the ire of another. Roy Jones Jr. is not among those who were left in awe by the choice words recently offered by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in relation to the number of alphabet titles which exist in the sport today. Mayweather took a hard stance against boxing's version of participation trophies as part of an impromptu rant during a recent media workout for Gervonta Davis (23-0, 22KOs), ionically whose three-time title status includes having won a vacant 130-pound title and a vacant secondary version of a 135-pound strap.

Hey Roy the media asked you do you need a trinket not Floyd, Floyd wasnt talking about you personally he was talking too many belts in boxing across the board period, come on Roy havent you been around the media enough to know a bait.

I spoke to Roy at the Calzaghe weigh in , he sounded done then and is now. Tyson was done 15 years ago .This is a joke. There's so many good fights out there....this is a circus.

I dont think Roy was ever undisputed at any weight so im not sure what he even means by this.

*edit. He did become undisputed at Light Heavyweight upon me checking which is pretty big. It wasn't a strong Era he fought in but he deserves.credit for that..

But you can become undisputed by beating one guy it doesnt matter without the details, this is why belts on face value dont mean anything, its who when and how you beat them that makes the belt great, the belt doesnt make the fighter great its the other way around.

I'm still mad about Roy Jones losing to Antonio Tarver. I'd much rather see him KO Tarver that would make my day lol

This is one of this fantasy make believe fights someone would randomly make up. And even back in their primes no one would think to put these two guys I'm the ring with one another (at least i wouldn't). But i would be lying if i said i wasnt curious to see what going to happen.

They have to do a better job of proof reading these articles lol

For once I find myself 100% agreeing with Floyd. He is spot on in this little debate. The concept of having even more than one single champion is counterintuitive to the entire idea of what a champion is. The champ is supposed to be the best. Period. No peers. You can't have 4 "bests" ... I'd give anything to see boxing go back to 8 divisions and 1 champ per division. It's diluted AF and has been for a long time.

I like Roy better than Floyd and think he was also more talented, but Floyd is right, way too many belts in boxing and it keeps getting worse thanks to the wbc and wba specifically.
