I can envision Haney fighting lesser opponents in his next couple of fights and Lopez possibly moving up by that time before the fight can be made. Haney hasn't shown that he has the capacity to beat someone like Lopez yet. He's a couple of years younger so he still has time but if they keep moving him like they are, Lopez will probably be at SLW by the time Haney and his camp think he's ready for that kind of challenge. I could be wrong of course but I'd be surprised if Haney really calls out Lopez after presumably beating Gamboa.

As much as I dislike Teo's attitude that does not alter my opinion of his boxing skills. Teo would destroy Haney. The mental toughness and heart he showed against Loma sealed it for me. I would still like to see Teo work on his boxing skills and his defense. He showed some nice footwork against Loma but he was still getting hit by combinations at times and his complaining to the ref did not look good. Either way at this point Teo still beats Haney and the rest of the division.Comment

You honestly think Arum is afraid to put Teofimo in with Haney, who has proved nothing and beat nobody near elite level? Give me a break. Haney is no risk right now. I would be very surprised if Haney's promoter Hearn wants to throw him into the fire against Lopez. The take over was against the right guy at the right time and as long as he's matched correctly he will do well.
Lopez should do well against baranchyk, zepeda and do ok with Ramirez. The big rangy guys like Devin Haney or Josh Taylor will prove too much and in IMO Regis Prograis blasts Lopez out.
More importantly...don't expect Haney, Taylor or Prograis to get that chance because Arum simply won't allow it.Comment

Really? Back it up a bit dude. Haney hasn't proved a damn thing yet and he certainly shouldn't be elevated to Mayweather Jr status. You guys are mad if you think Haney would be too much for Lopez. I've said it already but I'll say it again, what has Haney proved? Who has he beat? He's not a true champion. He's a contender right now, nothing more, nothing less and he proves nothing by beating an old, broken down Gamboa.Comment

Can he punch? Really? Who has he KO'd that proves he can really punch? He went the distance in his LAST fight against an inexperienced, no name fighter in Alfredo Santiago. It took him 9 rounds to get rid of Mason Menard where Lopez got him out with one punch in the first round. He may be able to KO lower level fighters but he hasn't knocked out anyone even remotely relevant on the world stage.Haney is very fast and very talented. And he can punch. However, he has developed some bad habits that he has gotten away with so far against the limited opposition he has faced. He keeps his left hand at his waist. A guy like Lopez or Gervonta Davis will have the speed and power to time Haney's jab and nail him when he brings his left back down to his waist after jabbing.Comment

Haney isn't ready for this fight just yet. He has talent but hes still not as proven as he needs to be for a guy like Lopez.Comment

I totally agree. He may be an alright trainer but based on what I've heard in interviews, Haney Sr. seems to be a real arsehole. He's touting his son as you would but nothing has been backed up yet. So far, Haney is just a promising prospect. Like you say, we should know how good he truly can be once he faces decent competition. As a title holder, albeit an illegitimate one, if he keeps winning, you would think they can only keep him away from the top fighters at LW for so long. Time will tell.Comment

LOl I was going to do a similar post... I like the analysis, the finer technical points but these are young fighters who have yet to really show what they can do when pressured... Lopez did this against Loma and has a psychological advantage going in.Can he punch? Really? Who has he KO'd that proves he can really punch? A lot of young fighters look superb... I well remember seeing this small Puerto Rican Light weight fighter... dude was cutting the ring down and had that Trinidad/Cotto power! (im being tongue in cheek)... I said to myself "this kid is going places..." that was Juan Ma.Comment

Your too stuck on the Haney ain't fought nobody thing which is a valid point but that doesn't mean he won't whoop Lopez just because he hasn't fought a big name yet these other guys aren't exactly chomping at the bits to jump in there with Haney either he's been calling them out. People forget Floyd fought a bunch of faded champs and no names when he was 21 too I mean the kid is 21 how many big fights is he supposed to have had in his career he can barely buy alcohol, he's already on a fast track.Really? Lopez has a major psychological advantage over the rest of the pack... he has been tested. They are all superb, and virtually untested with the exception of Lopez.Devin Haney is much bigger than Lomachenko. He's younger, fights from a distance, moves and every bit as fast as Lopez.
The first five rounds that Lomachanko gave up would most likely go in Devin's favor. Not because Devin is a better fighter than Loma but because he is bigger, rangy and presents the absolute worst style for a counter puncher like Lopez.
And Lopez a counter puncher? I see him more as a puncher who has been taught how to box and follow directions well... His strenght is his power.Comment
