Joe calzaghe- most underrated of all time?

Now everyone considers Joe a top fighter but he doesnt get the credit he deserves in my opinion as one of the greatest to ever lace them up.

What joe did as professional was extraordinary- fans dont realise how difficult it is to go 46-0.

Mayweather went 50-0 but the vast majority of fans know he didnt win every fight, whereas Joe never left it in doubt who was the winner. Joe finished his career on top, whilst mayweather has been opting to fight people who arent boxers

When joe got in the groove there was simply no stopping him, i will never forget that jeff lacy performance, a fight after which jeff lacy was never the same. Joe looked like a million dollars that night and proved all the critics wrong.

And what joe did was very different to what we see fighters such as canelo doing now, who is picking and choosing the weakest/oldest opponents at each weight, waiting until they show signs of weakness and also using performance enhancing drugs. Joe stayed at one weight and took on all comers, he didnt need judges to gift him decisions.

People diminish the jones jr and hopkins wins but lets not forget joe was no spring chicken at this time either. Hopkins was still pulling out great performances around that time but he had no answer for 'the pride of wales'.

Off the top of my head, Joe only fought 8 or 9 times against an opponent who won a world title at some point in their career.

Floyd went 24-0-0-0 against other champions, and yes, he did win all of those fights.

Calzaghe was a fantastic fighter who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. No question about that. But comparing him to Mayweather is utter nonsense and it does a disservice to your correct point that he's underrated.

Joe is rated correctly. There are fights he could have taken that he didn't, during his tenure.

Yeah, that is what many from the UK say. The UK refs had a bad habit of giving him KO wins over visiting fighters who were not hurt. He is very good and most fans know it. but he is not underrated but overrated by many UK fans.

Tough guy to beat but not near one of the greatest to lace them up not near, Joe had a sheltered somewhat protected career probably best prime guy he beat was Kessler other than him the rest of his name guys were pretty much done.

Joe should have gone to the USA early and fight Jones Hopkins Toney if he was to really make his mark, he waited way to long before fighting any of them, even prime Eubanks would have been good but he fought a way past it version.

In his entire career he beat 3 fighters who were ranked in the Top 5 in the division at the time.

One of which was Jeff Lacy.

So no, if anything he’s overrated because some people actually rate him highly when he did nothing in his career to deserve that kind of praise.

He should of re-matched Robin Reid, apart from that? I think his resume is good, plenty of fighters who had only just lost their championship belts before fighting him etc 'Calzaghe past every test put in-front of him'.

calzaghe clearly lost to hopkins. go back and watch that fight now without any emotional attachment. hes just running into punches and hitting air. also robin reid fight could have gone either way so yeah i dont know what you are talking about when you say he left no doubt. his whole entire career was plagued with doubt, and mayweather was a cherry picker but wow he looks like he takes on all comers compared to calzaghe. calzaghe didnt start fighting anyone good till about 34 years old and he retired at 36. his own promoter trashe him for being scared to take risks and pretending he was scared to fly then he saw him flying to go on vacation lmao!
