Comments Thread For: Joshua: Fury Went Pro in 2008, Never Thought I Would Catch Up To Him

IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua admits that he never expected to be in position for a showdown with Tyson Fury, who holds the WBC world title. The 32-year-old Fury is only one year older than Joshua. He turned pro in 2008, which is five years before Joshua made the jump after winning gold in the 2012 Olympic games.

Why does AJ keep talking about this?

They made their debut’s just over 4 years apart, they have a year difference in age.

The only difference is Fury turned pro at about 19 and AJ in his 20’s

It’s really a non story. Turning pro 4 years apart but basically the same age means you’re in the same era.

If AJ was saying it about Wlad, fair enough.

11 years is enough for 10,000 hours to become an expert. Stop talking ****. I’ve managed a degree, masters and professional qualification in half that time.

With a only a years difference in age of course they are from the same time. Only difference is Tyson Fury has not been hammered , out thought and out fought by a massive under dog.

Its weird that he keeps saying this. Joshua moved a lot quicker in his career and had the olympic momentum going in, plus Fury was out of the ring for nearly 3 years.

It's not hard to see what he's saying. AJ got a gift shot at the title by way of a voluntary defence in his 17th fight. They weren't planning on that or pushing towards it. If that didn't happen then AJ more than likely would have taken a more carefully planned route (not as protected as Wilder's career though) and been in title contention about now. If Fury hadn't been out the ring for three years then he'd be nearing 40 fights. It's not beyond all logic to think that Fury would have mopped up the division, felt he'd accomplished all he needed and retired.

I don't necessarily agree with what AJ is saying and don't think the above would have happened (now or then, I see Fury fighting until he's at least 34), but it's still not a hard concept to grasp.

                  Potatoes gonna potate though

Very bizarre comment. It's 2020, both should be at or even past their best by now in their 30s.

He knows Fury will beat him.
