I think his name was Javan "Sugar" Hill. Manny was his mom's brother and he lived with Manny for most of his childhood; Manny was essentially his father. He took the Steward name in homage to his uncle.

I will admit it was odd to see his name suddenly different but it is understandable considering their relationship.
