Yep. I'd be blown away if Wilder wins this one. He's essentially 0 for 2 already. Fury is indeed improving... and as such, I'm thinking he'll even improve his accuracy in #3. Definitely looking forward to it.

"Their third fight" says exactly what it is, and has been used for centuries to indicate a simple fact. Why become an "educator" in a sphere where none is needed. "Boxing" is a plainly understood sporting term and event, and using mystical, esoteric, confusing words like "trilogy" could cause the collapse of the whole industry...

Remember the Collapse of The Roman Empire" because of internal burrowing... !!!

Boxing has survived far longer, because it calls "a fist, a fist", and not "a clenched collection of 5 digits, each having 3 bones, except the apposing thumb which has two". (the etymology of the word "thumb" will be explained later, so as not to confuse the present issue)

To continue.....Oh better not... anyway, "third fight" suits boxing better than "trilogy"... Just my opinion.
Trilogy: a series or group of three plays, novels, operas, etc., that, although individually complete, are closely related in theme, sequence, or the like.

So a group of three fights does make perfect sense. Trilogy doesn't refer (and never has) to any specific item or production, it just means a series of three linked events or artifacts.

      See, learning is fun.

Oh yes learning IS fun...lots of fun.... Although I recall that when I was boy in elementary school, and later secondary school, I loved learning, but hated they way it was imparted.. .often by means of a leather strap or cane..

As a "sentimental" note, I recall my first day going along the road to school... by myself, feeling very self-important, carrying my lunch packet. It was a one Roomed parochial school with a sliding partition when required and catered to 5 grades. I was 2 1/2 and already reading. They gave the young kids slates and chalk to "write" on; found I was left-handed and bound my left hand behind my back forcing me to become right-handed. Which I still am.. but only in writing Rotten writing too. Miss Ervine was the Headmistress.

Left handedness is the mark of SATAN!!!
Seriously though, that sounds like a bloody awful way to be educated. Your dominant hand is determined by your brain's neural makeup and can't be changed (nor should it be).

I was lucky that corporal punishment was banned a couple of years before I went through the system. We just had an angry Welshman for a design technology teacher who would throw tools at your head from across the room.

I would love to be able to write with my left hand though, how long did it take you to learn to use your right?

Your Welsh teacher must have given you all the rudiments needed to make a top defensive boxer.

I don't know. Never thought about it. Accepted the teacher's attitude... At that time although able to read , I didn't write anything except individual letters. I don't write left handed, Of course I CAN write LH. but it would be laborious and more ragged than the way I write RH ( LH is handy if I was telling a husband that his wife was having an affair with someone whom I just happened to dislike).

Mind you looking back, i don't see anything wrong with corporal punishment in schools. The administration of it depends entirely on the teacher, and it is often salutary and beneficial for certain otherwise normal students, turning them from the wrong path to a better way.. I strongly believe that the very obvious rot in the quality of most of our youth began when it was abolished. Respect for elders and parents were destroyed. And when Political Correctness became a religion.

I happened to have in elementary school, a wonderful teacher, with a VERY short fuse and a fearsome leather strap. It looked as if taken from a horse harness and several thicknesses added. Over a 4-6 year period he had worn the strong cobblers thread away and it became more like a flail, with far less "impact". He bellowed like "The Bull of Bashan". Many years later, when grown up, with Mr. Cassidy long retired. I was in Ireland visiting my family, and went to see him, a surprise visit.. He looked just the same, tall thin, brutal mouth but now had a kindly attitude. He recalled me very well, although he's last seen me at age 13 , and now I was 36. He even greeted me by name and welcomed me warmly. He said he remembered all of the hundreds of pupils he'd had passing through, and was always determined that in HIS classes they would LEARN something. (we even had a very low I.Q. deformed poor boy who couldn't even dress or feed himself or talk properly. . HE learned some things even).

Out of my own class of about 30, there have been at least 6 famous, world wide renowned people whose wonderful adult achievements can be read about on the internet, and maybe another 4-5 doctors/lawyers. Of the top 3, I was one, and, today, the only survivor. But I didn't succeed to the extend that the 2 others did. They were primarily students and scholars-high achievers. I was more of a sportsman, involved in several, all competitive, tournament class, some contact, sports, along with a lesser scholarship. Who's to say who had the right idea and who has enjoyed life more. I can't judge this.

            Oh well.... !!

Very interesting story, thanks for taking the time to write about it. I am only aware of one of my classmates being internationally recognised.
He was in the British cycling team for about a decade, won silver at the Olympics and went on to be a commentator for cycling events on the BBC.
Of course, there would have been another famous classmate but I never got around to becoming the World Heavyweight Champion (was too busy at the time).

The sadist in me wants to see Wilder Ko Fury and Pulev to Ko AJ and then Povetkin to Ko Whyte in the rematch....oh, and Chisora to Ko Usyk. It would be like revenge of the nerds part 7, or day of the bums, or the bums strike back..

I like your sense of humour, it's a great thing to have-and keep. If you're U.K>, I don't know how old you are but you may recall a guy named Eamonn Andrews, who had a late night show on BBC which was immensely popular and went on for many years. Who would have thought it.

He was a friend of my dear late elder brother, he was the Hon. Sec. of St Andrews Boxing Club, and my brother, although not the Hon. Sec. was the "mover' in my club. In an interclub tournament between us, I had my first fight, aged 15, and won. We had a return, and Eamonn switched a "ringer" on us, a guy about 5-6 years older, a man, who the next year, was on the International squad. The dirty dog. I lost of course. It was "revenge", as they were sure my first opponent would win the coming year's league in our weight.

Later Eamonn did a bit of broadcasting and I went to Canada and lost track. On a trip home, I found he was HUGE in England. But I still remember that "ringer".

There's much more to it of course.

Although I have much hesitation in even mentioning my dear late mother on this site- I'll tell you a little story. She hated my boxing, having come from a different background to my dear late father., whose voice, amongst the crowd roar was the only one I could hear.

One night whilst leaving the stadium after a fight, saying goodnight to a doorman, he said" your mother was over here again tonight"..I was surprised.."MY mother..are you sure..how did you know her".. "Oh I don't know her, but we all know who she is, We've seen her a lot".. "How's that", Well, she comes over very quietly during the night, and asks about the boxing".. "Oh.. She asks about me does she...but she hates boxing"... "No she does't ask about you, She asks about YOUR OPPONENT"...That's how we know who she is. !!

Yes I remember Eamonn Andrews, he was the host of "This is your Life" when I was young (a very big deal indeed).

My mum was somewhat like yours in a way. I remember being 6 or 7 and riding along by her side. As we got to a petrol station I went ahead and was knocked down by a car. My mum screamed and came charging over, very upset and to my surprise apologised profusely to the driver asking him to make sure his car wasn't damaged.
I just got told "watch where you are going".
Funnily enough my Mum was the nicest, sweetest person you could ever meet, which is why it really stuck in my mind.
