I don't know when his WBO mandatory status is due put Shawn is sitting in the catbird right seat now. He has his choice of either fighter. Also, Porter is ranked no. 2 by the IBF.

Manny Pacquiao will be retiring by the end of next year. So there is no chance of Spence ever fighting him because he would have an IBF mandatory defense after Danny Garcia.

From the looks of things, Pac should be fighting Mikey Garcia next; Perhaps as early as January of 2021 and not Terence Crawford because Bob thinks Manny wants too much money.

Besides, Pac doesn't have a mandatory challenger. So he could fight whoever he wants.
Unifications Trump mandatories, always. Pac can fight Spence even if the IBF gives him a mandatory.

The only requirement is that you send written notice to the IBF that you are unifying titles.

    That simple.

The only time people get stripped is because they failed to follow that very simple procedure.

    Manny must stop ducking.

There are no excuses for his behaviour.

Or, alternatively, he can continue to duck, just drop the belt.

Of course, this is wishful thinking.

Manny has been doing this his entire career he ain't gonna change now.

He never unifies or defended his titles and he either cherry picked or asked for catchweights in order to take fights.

Even if he takes the Spence fight I expect him to try and enforce a catchweight or rehydration clause.

More likely a catchweight because rehydration clause won't work because Spence has been doing that anyway for the IBF.

Except when they don't - as we saw with Ramirez and Catteral. WBO said, nope, fight your mando or get stripped.

        That's where we're at.

I know it worries some people, the idea of Crawford fighting someone who's a true threat. It's not that big of a deal, it's the only way we'll all know if he's legit. You should want that.

Pacquiao might give Mikey that retirement payday, sorry I meant "legacy fight", that Garcia is pleading so much for. If Pacquiao wins, I can see his finale being a ppv against Spence. But who knows . . .

Crawford by UD. Crawford has the higher IQ and will remain one step ahead in a thriller.

I would think after Spence's life threatening experience, there would be a sense or urgency in making certain fights happen.

Won’t happen unless Crawford leaves top rank. Not a big enough mainstream fight for a co promotion.

You make an excellent point! If Pac is going to continue to prolong his career and fight at an elite level, then yes; He shouldn't continue to hold the WBA's welterweight championship belt hostage. He should look to either unify or relinquish it.

As far as Erroll Spence is concerned; I am not to sure that a unification would automatically trump a mandatory defense because Spence hasn't defended his IBF title against the mandatory challenger since 2018.
