Unifications don't always override a mandatory defense. If Shawn Porter decides that he wants to fight Crawford next for the WBO or Spence for the WBC, then that fight is going to be inevitably delayed anyhow.

For the record, Erroll has already said that he doesn't mind fighting Porter for the second time to get to Crawford. If Porter chooses to exercise his mandatory defense for the WBC welterweight against Spence, then Erroll is all for it.

It doesn't matter because the Porter's don't want Spence anyway. They want Crawford. They feel like he is the better style match up for them than Errol Spence, Jr.

I don't know when his WBO mandatory status is due put Shawn is sitting in the catbird right seat now. He has his choice of either fighter. Also, Porter is ranked no. 2 by the IBF.

Manny Pacquiao will be retiring by the end of next year. So there is no chance of Spence ever fighting him because he would have an IBF mandatory defense after Danny Garcia.

From the looks of things, Pac should be fighting Mikey Garcia next; Perhaps as early as January of 2021 and not Terence Crawford because Bob thinks Manny wants too much money.

Nobody is holding the belt hostage when an undisputed champion is unlikely to happen in the horizon. Especially in a pandemic.

A Spence-Crawford fight will never happen.

Holding the belt hostage doesn't make sense if there's a sub-version of it.

Ugas is the sub-champ and can be the main one if he fights Spence or Crawford. Crawford won't fight Ugas. Spence has Danny, his mandatories which includes Porter and then there's Ugas. F**k's sake, Thurman might even try to wiggle into a mandatory shot before Spence and Crawford even fight.

Your expectation of an undisputed champion at welter will never happen in a 4 world title era, multiple stream services/networks, promoters, and a pandemic this big that occurs once every century.
