I use them all the time to research a boxer I don't know about and want to learn about. I also check the ratings of the 4 alphabet groups. I know none of the ranks are perfect and sometimes are way off but they are all I have until I see him fight. Boxrec is very handy because they rank every pro boxer in every weight class even if there are 3000 boxers i the weight class. Sometimes a champion like Lara or Wilder would defend their title against a guy who was so bad that nobody ranked him in the top 15 contenders. So I would see where boxrec ranked him. Sometimes boxrec would rank him as low as number 100.
How important are Boxrec and Ring magazine rankings?

They currently have Breidis, Povetkin and Kovalev higher than Usyk.
They have Wilder and AJ higher than Lomachenko.
And worst of all they have Eubank Jr and Joe Smith Jr 15 places above Roman Gonzalez.
Jesse Hart is also above Chocolatito, Jesus Christ...

If Ring was as biased as people claim just because it’s owned by GBP they would have made Canelo P4P a long time ago. They only recently made him after the Kovalev win, the same as TBRB.Comment

It's founded my a plagiarist who is known for having made up most of his accounts for history, in his time he was just under cutting the Police Gazette, kinda the original Ring, sold to an eccentric collector, and then the GBP.
There really isn't much history of a lack of bias in Ring. Ring always had a stake in certain fighters but, to their credit, never really allowed that to be seen through their ranking.
My point is GBP is hardly the first owners to have had a financial stake in fighters.Comment
