How important are Boxrec and Ring magazine rankings?

Do you consider Boxrec and Ring magazine rankings when assessing a fighter and/or his resume?

And how important do you think those rankings are?

I don't base everything on it but I do think they provide a point of reference.

    What do you guys think?

        Boxrec’s are irrelevant.

        Ring’s are respectable.

Top boxers fight each other so rarely the top 10 is always pretty meaningless & full of speculation. It is a decent enough guide.

It'd be better if it worked more often like the UFC rankings where guys have had to beat some guys in their rankings to get in the rankings & if they had have to beat higher ranked guys to rise in the rankings.

Alas boxing makes no mfing sense except when they are actually fighting doe.

Boxrec's an invaluable reference for checking dates, results and resumes but it's rankings are pretty much meaningless outside of giving you a general feel for what kind of level a fighter's at, particularly those you're less familiar with. Main upside in Boxrec's ranking system is that it eliminates many of the subjective biases that can influence our ranking of fighters.

Ring is fairly solid but their impartiality has been seriously bought into question in recent years.

Best bet these days is probably TBRB although some criticisms have also been leveled at them for being less than transparent about their ranking methodology.

If I had to choose it'd be TBRB by a margin, but I generally keep an eye on all three, using TBRB as my baseline though perhaps modifying a bit if the other rankings seem to indicate a strong difference in opinion

I don't give a **** about either personally but I do respect their reach so often I'll report on a situation as if I do.

For example, even though I don't give any ****s what Ring, Boxrec, Transnational Boxing Ranking Board, Boxing Monthly, Boxing News, or the Entertainment Sports Programming Network has to say about official rankings, in every thread I create asking fans to pick between two juxtaposed boxers I will include their positions on all six of those ranking boards plus the four official boards, and, sometimes, I might even include Lineal Boxing Champions' pick for lineals as well; https://www.linealboxingchampion.com/new-page-2
