You're right, I'm not making out Porter to be some kind of yardstick but his style is almost impossible to look good against. Brook's timing was spot on that night, you could even see the surprise on Porter's face when he was getting caught flush as he jumped in.

Seemed to be in the 'who needs him' club from there on in which is a shame as the money was there via the UK PPV to fight Cotto, Garcia, Thurman etc. What happened regarding GGG and then weight draining for Spence (both in respective primes) shows how desperate he got. In fact this showdown now with Crawford in his prime is also an act of desperation.

This fight should have never been sanctioned. Shame on Terence Crawford for taking this fight. Brook's best days are now behind him and should retire because he is a shot fighter. He has two metal plates in his eye sockets. He can get seriously hurt in there if he has trouble seeing those punches coming from weird angles at his face.

You're right, Brook won't beat any of the top 5 welters; apart from that decision win over a pre-peak Porter he never has.
He didn't really "deserve better" either as he always choose the easy route prior to Golovkin. Which was a fight he took because he realised it was the only fight out there where could earn the kind of money he was desperate for as, even then, he had one eye (maybe the one Golovkin broke?) on retirement. Brook kills himself - and as an ingle fighter you've got to wonder about that - to make 147 and pre-weight cut there isn't actually much size difference between him and GGG.
I envisage a fight with Crawford looking very much like the Spence fight.
