That’s because Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions are engaged in a heated dispute with DAZN officials regarding the streaming service’s refusal to pay Canelo the $35 million guaranteed in his contract.
No one in the industry would be surprised if this matter headed to court. But to this juncture, Golden Boy hasn’t threatened legal action and DAZN has taken notice, confident in its position. In the past, GBP has sued PBC founder Al Haymon and Top Rank over different matters.
What a clutchphuck. Not having boxing's number one attraction fight in 2020 is terrible. If Jacobs/Kovalev are not considered good or premiere opponents, then who aside from GGG is considered that? If Canelo fought BJS or Smith, those two surely won't be considered premiere opponents. Andrade? Nope. Charlo? Nope. Plant? Nope. I want to see the list of opponents considered "premiere" for DAZN. Wanting Canelo to take a 50% pay cut is ridiculous. So because of the Canelo hold up, is that why no other cards have been announced yet for DAZN?
And interesting that Canelo doesn't have his own deal with DAZN. It makes sense that GBP leveraged Canelo to get their deal for the rest of the stable, but Canelo not having his own deal is interesting to say the least. Not sure why his management team would even sign off on something like that? DAZN is also clueless if they thought the Mayweather rematch could happen....And that it would happen on DAZN. ZERO percent chance even if Mayweather rematched Canelo that he wouldn't have it on SHO PPV.
Let's see how this ends up playing out.
