Anybody who has seen him move up the ranks on the Quebec scene know that he is not a power puncher but yes, at 175lbs, anybody can go with a well placed/timed rear hand.

The Eleider from the Bute/Pascal era would have never tried to "slug it out" with Joe Smith, he would have moved and boxed and if the right hand presents itself...

That being said, huge props to Joe Smith!
Promoters gonna promote. They showed Alvarez's knockout of Michael Seals in between rounds 1 and 2 but I was there at that fight, literally nothing happened the entire fight until the knockout. If you look at the official highlight on youtube you'll see the knockout is the only highlight of that fight...

Didn't say he couldn't be dropped. I said he couldn't be beaten at the state of the LHW right now... Unless the hypothetical lucky shot of course... But yeah, he's THE ONE at LHW as we speak...

Kovalev can still become 4-time world champ fighting Smith - Salamov/Vlasov winner for the WBO belt, but rather see Beterbiev-Smith jr

Exactly! Even against Seals, Eleider did not box Seals to a KO finish him. He just waited for the "well timed hit" to happen.

Both Salamov/Vlasov haven't fought in almost a year and the WBO (with some prodding by Bob) might rule that #4 Smith beating #3 Alvarez is enough to change the rankings.

Kovalev is a corpse now. Maybe he can down 4 shots of vodka but don't think he's anything but a wet noodle now.

Again, great win tonight, but I think Vlasov is a tough matchup for Joe. Smith can still certainly be out boxed by a mover, which Bivol showed when he boxed Smith's nuts off and Vlasov is a very underrated, skilled boxer. That would be a difficult stylistic matchup for Smith

Salamov and Vlasov signed with Top Rank so I don't think Arum would try to screw them over now

Yeah I agree he is the best at LHW at the moment he's proven that but Smith has a punchers chance against anybody he's shown to be pretty durable too
