Liam Smith was a belt holder and 154 and was from a known boxing family in the uk. If anything can be said about uk fans, its that they follow boxing and support their guys. Who ever said Canelo would be making the same money he’s guaranteed with DAZN? Not me. Obviously, Canelo would be getting a percentage of the PPV buys as well as a minimum fee not 35 mil. The end goal for Canelo doing an independent PPV fight is for him to become the 168 lbs WBC champ which is what he wants that’s why he requested to fight for the vacant belt. Face of boxing since Lara fight - Angulo (shot), Kirkland (shot), Cotto (over-the-hill), Khan (cherry), Liam (cherry b/c Andrade had the WBO), Chavez Jr (shot cherry), GGGimmick I (2nd defeat), GGGimmick II (legit win), Jacobs (ok boxer but no HofF level), Kovalev (double rehydration cherry). Basically, it's alot of recognizable names but not a lot real fights. I'm not sure if Canelo is the male version of Amanda Serrano, a division jumper who grabs opportunitic fights.
