It's total garbage with absolutely no chance for an upset. Only the most deluded Canelo fanatics are praising the prospect of such a horrible matchup.
I'm a Canelo fan but first and foremost I'm a boxing fan, Alvarez has to fight a top guy, the bar is set high for him because of his quality as a fighter.

    Andrade
    Charlo
    Derevyanchenko
    Smith
    Benavidez
    Plant
    Bivol
    Beterbiev

Give me one of these names and I'm happy.

But, that doesn't mean GBP doesnt have the leverage to do this the way they want because all the signs say they do.

More than once it's been reported that DAZN doesn't make the final decision on who Canelo fights. I haven't seen a contract but my guess is the guys at ESPN or Yahoo sports have.
Pacquiao lifting the strap off of margarito was a cherry pick?

It’s best if canelo and dazn just part ways, too much drama, neither side is happy with their arrangements. If canelo would have fought GGG when dazn had wanted he’d probably have more leeway in this current situation. Dazn isn’t getting more subscribers for any other fight and they don’t have the liquidity to pay out the purses to their flagship fighters. It’s a real shame because dazn was on a tear making great fights since they’ve entered the market. They’ve put on classics likes the wbss fights, rungvisai vs Estrada, Joshua vs Ruiz I, ggg vs derevychanko, etc...

You’re absolutely right, he’s ranked #1 p4p by the ring, he can’t be fighting 2 no hopers, especially considering that he signed the largest contract in boxing history.

He stated a while back he wouldn’t be fighting any champions, even though the subtext indicated that he wanted a tune up, it would be great if he could step in with Bivol or benevidez (both of whom are not titleholders at 168). If he wants to put his stamp as an ATG he should probably start facing champions in their prime, since he’s already on the backend of his career.

Cheato didn't have a strap to lift.

Margarito was coming of a year suspension AND a horrible showing vs Robert Garcia (not THAT Robert Garcia, a journeyman with the same name).

The suspension was for the wraps although the commission should have just sentenced Cheato to another arse-whipping by Shane Mosley.

Neither Antonio or Manny were ranked in the top 5 BY ANYONE at 154.

Neither man had earned the right to a title fight at 154.

And again, Antonio had gotten smoked by Shane, suspended a year, looked like crap vs a journeyman yet somehow got to fight for a title in a weightclass he wasn't a factor in.

Throw in the fact that it was a 150 lb catchweight that was sure to drain Margarito and you have one of the cherriest cherrypicks in the entire history of the sport.

          And, I misspoke.

Even given all the fuquery Canelo is attempting, it still won't top this one by Manny.

The problem there is that he is owed a shot at the belt by the WBC. Unless the WBC pulls some shady ish to convince DAZN to let it happen, looks like Canelo is gonna hafta wait to see who is the winner of Yildirim-TBD.

            • I think its pretty dire for boxing that Canelo cant negotiate a opponent

              • It wouldn’t be as bad as Mayweather vs Berto, at least Yildirim is ranked high enough to be ordered a shot! Just let dude fight now and pick a bigger opponent next time around a lot of fighter get easy fights in between tough fights and right now during the pandemic they should allow it just to keep him busy!

                  • I feel like a casual these days. What Canelo fights would I be interested in seeing? Canelo-Golovkin III, Canelo-Charlo/Derevyanchenko winner especially if it's Charlo, Canelo-Benavidez, Canelo-Beterbiev.

Outside of that I'm likely not even streaming for free.

Yea, because it’s valid to compare Mayweather’s farewell fight at 38 to canelo’s choice of opponent at 30, dead in the middle of his prime.
