Just because the WBC throws this out there doesn't mean it's going to happen, IDK why people are losing their minds like it was Canelo bringing this up, as far as I know the the fight being put together is the Smith fight which was actually close to being agreed with before DAZN sh** all over it because they didn't want to crank open their wallets. So before everyone else starts praising DAZN, it's DAZN that's broke because of their bad management and now don't want to pay the money for a contract they put together. For the type of money Canelo makes his fights need to be on PPV, just like every other star did in the past, a subscription based service on a app for $20 Bucks ain't going to cut it, for that 2 happen they would need 10 million constant subscribers, even Canelo fans will tell you that they are not going to pay $20 a month to watch Canelo fight once or twice a year, places like HBO, Showtime could pull that off because they have other content, DAZN does not. Point is that it's getting to the point where Canelo is wasting time waiting on DAZN to get their sh** together, sooner or later something is going to happen meaning DAZN violated the contract and Canelo could walk, ESPN, Fox, or Showtime would jump all over Canelo, he's not going to get 35 million guaranteed but he will get a very good guarantee with high PPV upside just like the others De la Hoya, PAC, Mayweather, ect etc. And before you come at me with YOUR CRAZY, walk away from 300 million? Yeah because DAZN just doesn't have the money or platform to pay so Canelo is never going to see that money anyway.
If they want to renege the contract they should just come out and say it so they can go their separate ways. Showtime would jump at the chance to acquire the Golden Boy stable.

There's no way the DAZN contract could give them the right to pick Canelo's opponents since sanctioning bodies often mandate fights. The best they have is probably the right to "suggest" opponents.
His first fight on DAZN was Rocky Fielding, a guy who was second echelon and had a secondary belt. DAZN can't argue this is any worse because it's a secondary guy for a real divisional belt.
In other words...DAZN is screwed because, push come to shove, they have zero legs to stand on.

They could use that.
Fielding was a subpar opponent they approved, meaning what they pay Canelo has little or nothing to do with the quality of his opponent.
And it wasn't exactly free.
You had to subscribe then cancel.
Canelo can argue that he asked to fight for the vacant title, not Yildirim personally.
Further, he can argue that the WBC picked Yildirim, not him.
Again, I don't see DAZN doing well if this goes to court unless they have specific language in the contract that says otherwise.
And, judging from what has happened since Canelo has been with DAZN there's no reason to believe such language exists.Last edited by koolkc107; 08-19-2020, 07:47 PM.

Because folks at DAZN have been complaining about other match-ups Canelo has had and how they performed disappointingly.
If they are the ones controlling who Canelo fights, what are they complaining about?

Will it do big numbers I doubt it but it will get Canelo that belt @ 168 which should give him more negotiating power with the other 168 lbs champs. When it’s all said and done Canelo will be the new WBC champion @ super middleweight
