    Lomachenko-Lopez in doubt

Top Rank will have three shows the rest of August, with one in the U.K. on Aug. 15 and then shows at the MGM Grand Conference Center on Aug. 22 and Aug. 29. Then, they’re scheduled every Saturday in September, and perhaps longer, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said.

But that series of shows may not include Teofimo Lopez. Top Rank had hoped to make Lopez vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko on Oct. 5 at the MGM for the lightweight title, but Arum said that Lopez has declined the contract offer.

He said Lopez’s representatives told him that the coronavirus pandemic isn’t Lopez’s fault and so he shouldn’t have to take less.

“The contract we offered them is already more than double his highest purse and they starting talking all this crazy stuff,” Arum said. “They were talking numbers based on a $3 million live gate and close circuit. It’s crazy! They’re saying, why should they be affected by the coronavirus?

“Loma has a contract and he’s already given us relief. He’s fighting for less than his contract says because he gets it. I’m not in the business to lose money. If they turn down a record contract for him, nothing I can do. On to the next.”

Yep. Game over. Read the bold/underline.

    Too funny!

Yeah I would be good with that. These young fighters all want big money without having done much. I hope Stevenson doesn't go down that same path fighting with his own promoter.

Comments Thread For: Arum: I Won't Lose Money On Loma-Lopez Because Lopez Thinks He's Worth More

Bob Arum and Teofimo Lopez have drawn their proverbial lines in the sand. Their respective stances have placed the unbeaten IBF lightweight champion's showdown with Vasiliy Lomachenko in jeopardy. They're tentatively scheduled to fight October 3 in Las Vegas, but Arum disagrees with Lopez and Lopez's manager, David McWater, on how much money the biggest fight of Lopez's career should be worth to him.

Tank vs LSC is going flop badly.

So youre telling me 1.2 million isn't enough but making 300k is? Cuz camp and stuff is expensive right?

The ****** **** Curt you say.
bro...youre the same guy that was arguing about golovkin and telling me "szeremata is ranked higher than andrade"!!! .....you arent even worthy of a reply...because you are that dumb

If this was on fox it for sure would be ppv. The don’t spend more than 2-3 mil a card on regular fox. Just look at Saturday’s card
usually camp expenses are given as an "advance" but they still come out of the fighters check....like i said...take 1.2 and tax it....take a camp advance plus sanctioning fees...trainer/manager fees.....

people are acting like lopez balking at the number means hes "scared" or "knows loma will end his career"...the same clowns swore golovkin was going to end canelos career more than once

it has nothing to do with that...lopez wants his max value...hes the one that scored the spectacular ko to set this fight up..hes the one running his mouth and building it up.....hes confident he will win but smart enough to know that a loss is very possible...thus he wants what he feels his maximum value is within reason......hes 23...he could take on 5 guys for 300k and still be only 25 and have made that same money fighting way less risky fighters....or take 300k for his next mando and then slightly step it up over the next year or two and still make the same money with safer/easier fights....

lopez is and always was going to be the scapegoat for this fight....its how it works...the same way nobody else is to blame for golovkins career or anything he didnt do......and im not even faulting loma...its not his fault either....not at all

but some of you guys just sit around like "just fight i want the fight thats alot of money" or "thats more money than ill make in 25 years just shut up and take the fight"...thats not how these guys think...this is how they make money and make a better life for their families...theres a calculated risk/reward with their money/competition

lopez has done his part to build good interest in this fight...hes not about to be shortchanged in his mind because a few people on message boards think he should just shut up and take what hes told to....he was always gonna be bobs way out of making a fight bob didnt really want to make anyways unless it was under real good terms for bob
