Floyd has always been content to get by with decisions. Take the fight with over-matched Vargas, fans booed Floyd back then for being a boring fighter, this was his fifth title defense...and he had plenty of excuses for his lack of heart to finish off his opponent.
Mayweather knocked Vargas down with a left to the body in the sixth round and won easily on all three judges' scorecards. John Keane and Daniel Van de Wiele both scored it 119-108 while Chuck Giampa had it 118-109.
The problem was not the end, but the means. Mayweather was unable to put Vargas away, being content to cruise along on his superior speed and footwork, happy to just hit and run.
"I went into the fight with both my [right] hand and wrist hurting," Mayweather said, "but I don't want to make excuses. I moved around more than usual because I didn't want to get hit. I was fighting with one hand."
Vargas wasn't buying that excuse.
"He has a lack of courage," Vargas said.
Mayweather also had another excuse. He hadn't fought for six months because of the turmoil in his corner where his father, Floyd, Sr., remains the trainer, but has been replaced as manager by rap music producer James Prince. With Prince in charge of negotiations, the younger Mayweather's current contract with HBO ran out with Saturday's fight.
"The long layoff affected me," Mayweather said. "It affected my defense. I was hit too much. I want to fight in a month or a month and half. Six months is too much."
Yet despite his claims of injury and rust, Mayweather still found the time to talk to the ringside broadcasters. At one point, he told trainer Emanuel Steward that he felt fine.
On another occasion, when HBO's Jim Lampley told his audience that Mayweather had switched to a southpaw style for the second time, Mayweather leaned over to inform Lampley that it was the third time.
Cute stuff, but not enough to keep the crowd from booing Mayweather for the lack of action.
Use common sense when discussing The Conor fight. You seem very upset that fight sold so well.
So he won the fight 119-108 and you are criticizing it because he didn’t win by ko? That is just very petty. Beat a man 11-1 with a kd. How often does that happen in a title fight?

I do not regard Mannys wins over DLH, Mosley or Margarito as GOOD wins. Mannys wins over Thurman, Cotto, and Hatton were GOOD but not GREAT. Collectively that body of work is VERY impressive especially considering how little Manny started out...its historically never been done before in the HISTORY of the sport.
Which brings me to a very important and relevant anecdote. In the prime of Mannys career he spent 4-5 years refusing drug testing for steroids and performance enhancing drugs - something that was legitimately su****ious at the time. Some people try to ignore that never happened or choose to ignore it, but let me be clear - Manny very likely cheated. Very likely.
As a result Floyd's legacy OR money are better than Mannys legacy.
So Manny, the fighter who rematches tough opponents who he went life and death with, is somehow ducking Floyd, a guy who isn't known for his power and posed very little threat to him? Yeah ok.

A year later he accepts testing only to have the goal post moved by Floyd each time. Endless excuses to duck Manny in his prime. Floyd himself admits he marinated the fight for five years, and insists he deserves credit for being smart for making it a bigger fight.

Canelo had almost double the amount of fights at 23 that Tank has. Canelo is also the larger man. Tank is smaller and even though he has more pro fights, he hasn’t reached his prime while Loma is in his. Floyd was pst his athletic prime when he fought Canelo.
Things are not equal.
Whatever you feel about Loma/tank that doesn’t make Canelo a cherry pick. He just lost.
