They should change it back to its 190 pound limit.

I've never understood it at all . Even in England it gets very little attention. I can see why Americans haven't jumped onboard over the last few years because it's mainly been dominated by Europeans and there doesn't seem to be interest from the likes of espn, dazn and pbc

Over the last few years it's been one the only divisions where the best fight the best year in year out.

Cruiserweights are heavyweights. They often weigh 215 pounds or more when the enter the ring. That is heavier than Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Jack Johnson,Frazier, Hollyfield and Liston,Ali and Foreman on the day they won the title. Just about every top cruiserweight leaves that weight to fight at heavyweight where the money is. That is the main reason the heavyweights are popular and the cruiserweights are not. Liight heavyweights are not even close to being heavyweights so they are judged differently and are more popular than cruiserweights.

Cruiserweight just doesn’t have as many big names as some of the other divisions at any given time. Also, most of the great and well remembered Cruiserweight champs (Holyfield, Haye, Uysk, etc) did not stay in the division because the money is better if you go up in weight.

Because there's that perception that Cruiserweights are either Light Heavyweights who are too lazy to cut more weight or small Heavyweights who are too afraid to step up to the big boys.

Almost all the biggest names at Cruiser moved up to HW. So Cruiserweight is also seen as basically a stepping stone division for HWs who can cut the weight.

They're just ****ty HWs. If they're good they become HWs.

Because no one knows what a Cruiser is. How is boxing going to have a weight class in between Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight and call it Crusier? It's confusing to the causal fan.

                  Here's a couple solutions:

CW and LHW should switch classes so that LHW is 200 lbs and CW is 175 lbs. Or they could just change the dumb Crusierweight name to something else.

That's really no different than 140 to WW and 168 to LHW though. People typically don't care about CW because it's not marketed here in North America. Due to that, North American fighters don't make money in CW so they'll fight at LHW or HW.

The first season of WBSS Cruiserweight was fantastic, and really showed how fun the division was before Usyk, Hunter and Gassiev all moved up.

Pretty sure "Cruiser" is the second largest naval ship, which is where they got the name.
