How come so many people look down at the Cruiserweight division?

Yet light heavy, super middle, middle, and welter are all popular.

Even junior welter is more popular than cruiser.

How come cruiser does not get the same respect as the rest of the divisions?

Because its a young division that hasnt been 50 years old and its between 2 of the most recognized higherweight class, LHW and Heavyweight.

The weight limit for cruiserweight is 25 pounds above light heavyweight.

That means it’s unrealistic to see the best boxers run through it and win titles. Beterbiev, Bivol, Canelo, Callum Smith, etc. aren’t going to move up to 200 pounds to fight some nobody for a title. That means 175 is the end of the realistic title shots for almost everyone in boxing.

So what Cruiserweight has become is the junior heavyweight division. If you’re small enough to make 200 pounds and you’re not ready to challenge top heavyweights, you fight at cruiserweight.

That’s not an exciting division. It’s basically just a bunch of lowly ranked heavyweights.

Just think about it. The only superstars to ever fight at cruiserweight were Holyfield and Toney. Think of the names in every other division.

This is why I push for an 18th division between 175 and 200. I think 185 makes sense. I think it would actually make cruiserweight more talented because there would be a realistic stepping stone to it.

It's historically been shallow because like has already been said it's a relatively novel division and it seems like anyone who has real success there inevitably tries their hand at heavyweight. I do think that's starting to change though, it seems like the talent pool is getting deeper and there's more attention being paid to it after the WSS series that have been / are being held in it.

Most good cruiserweights move up for the money. The division is constantly left overs.

Really? I thought this was common knowledge, Holy's only rival rival for greatest Cruiser ever is Usyk.

Although that last bit about Holy unifying Cruiser in a way that had 'never been done before' is kinda odd since the division was very new and had only been universally recognised a few years when Evander ran through it... I would argue that it's a far deeper division now than it was in the mid / late 80s... without meaning to diminish Holyfields accomplishments at 190 in any way.
