Take your hand off of your hips. The post wasn’t that long, no need to break it apart like that. I didn’t say that loma doesn’t deserve any credit for beating Russell jr and Walters. I said that context matters while making the point that his resume doesn’t match the hype. He’s hyped as a generational talent and the #1 p4p guy. I don’t think he’s earned that.So you don't give Salvador Sanchez any credit for beating Azumah Nelson?
It'll be a year since Loma fought by the time they get in the ring, so hopefully you'll show some consistency and not give Lopez too much credit if he wins.
Rigondeaux was rated pound for pound and Loma won every round and made him quit.Comment

That's fair. I didn't say he was undisputed #1 or anything. I just said he's clearly in the pound for pound conversation.Take your hand off of your hips. Loma is my guy, but a lot of posters are right here. There is much in the way of a pro resume that is to be desired. Outside of Russell Jr and Rigo, the other wins are just good. He is currently a fighter with 1 great win in Russell and 1 very good win in Rigo. He needs to do so much more to be in the discussion for ATG. He needs to beat at least 2 of these guys Teofimo, Gervonta, Steveson and Haney to be considered an ATG.
One of the excuses I hear, as a Loma fan, is that he is only 15 fights in. The guy is 32 years old, he should have 30 fights already. No one should have advised him to stay in the olympics again when it was obvious that he was by far the best AM in the world. By staying in the olympic the second time, he cut his pro career short and in turn negatively affected his resume.
I want to believe in Loma, but he is already in decline. You could see that he has slowed down a little. 32 at heavyweight is young and yet at light weight it is old. Loma is a fighter who relies on his athletic ability a lot. He stays in the pocket and uses his natural gifts to avoid punishment. This will be harder and harder to do as he continues to age. So, I don't know if he will be able to beat the younger guys he needs to beat to prove himself an ATG. I hope he does, but I won't bet on it.Comment

We're privileged that Loma turned pro at all. Plenty of eastern Europeans in similar positions didn't and wouldn't. Same with Cubans, albeit for a different reason. Many, if not most, of the greatest amateurs never turn pro.
There's not nearly as much incentive. Boxers who compete and win for countries like Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, etc. (some of the best amateur boxing countries alongside Cuba) are nationwide heroes that their governments take very good care of afterward. Plus, an Olympic medal carries a lot more weight than a pro belt, at least in the eyes of their countrymen.
Oleg Saitov and Alexey Tischenko are just two relatively recent examples who never turned pro. Tischenko won 2 golds in 2 divisions just like Loma. Saitov won 2 golds and 1 bronze (one of only 5 men to win medals at 3 different Olympics).
They beat the best of the best and saw no need to pursue an overseas professional career with all of its politics. Can't really blame them.Last edited by Happy Lora; 07-02-2020, 09:15 PM.Comment

That's also why it's purely ignorant to claim that guys who stay amateur or turn pro late are just picking on teenagers, or whatever. Most of their opponents at the top level international tournaments are in the same boat.Comment

So I see you still haven't come up with a name yet to match him after 15 fights, that's what I call pathetic seeing you're the one mouthing off knobjockeyComment

just an FYI, Mayweather Jr fought a 1-13-1 guy in his 9th professional bout and didn't have a title fight for another 8 fights. By his 9th fight, Lomachenko was already a world champion and running out of opponents to fightComment
