  • Comments Thread For: Mike Tyson's Path Of Heavyweight Destruction Stands The Test Of Time

Andre Ward was all of two years old at the time a teenaged Mike Tyson began his meteoric rise to heavyweight immortality. The legacy left behind by the one-time baddest man on the planet, however, is legendary enough for the former two-division world champion to have become well versed on the subject.

    Correction needed brother.

"concluding with the first of two knockout wins over England’s Frank Bruno, having stopped the Brit in five rounds in July 1989"

Tyson beat Bruno in Feb '89. He beat Carl Williams in July '89.

It should be a lesson for todays fighters reading about Tyson fighting 27 times in 20 months. That is a bit of a break neck schedule but it screams FIGHT MORE THAN TWICE A YEAR!!!

Still people around who didn't even live at that time, but talk about Tyson being overrated. Poor them.

That was also a destructive pace to say the least, 27 bouts in 20 months!

No wonder his prime was relatively short. His body was completely exploitated and left empty, also mentally.

On the contrary, current crop of fighters are too lazy and are ridiculously overpaid.

Hughie Fury had 12 fights in 7 and a half months...(his first 12 fights as a pro).

To play devil's advocate, can anyone in this thread list the victories Mike Tyson has over prime, ATG opponents and natural Heavyweights?

I'm a few year's younger than Iron Mike so i got to watch his career.
In my eye's Tyson will never be considered the greatest. But 80s Mike was the goat.
We didn't have internet, ig or twitter but the world knew who he was because he was alway's fighting.
Forward to today. Nobody in America knew who the unified paper champ Aj was... They called him Antony Johnson
There's levels. Alot of today's belt holders are just that, belt holder's, nothing more.

^^^ So essentially, Mike was the GOAT because the media talked about him the most, got it. Sums up every Iron Mike fanataic ever.

"To play devil's advocate, can anyone in this thread list the victories Mike Tyson has over prime, ATG opponents and natural Heavyweights?" (this question I asked in my other post is the one that always stumps so called Iron Mike fans. The casuals obviously just parrot what they hear to fit in, but even actual boxing fans sorta just think "Man, can this guy just go away, we are busy sucking off Mike no need for facts here!"

His prime was short because he left his real trainer and had prison time ,even at 80% Mike managed to stay on top up until all that happened he had a good few years left but no can sustain that style with near perfection for longetivity ,Mikes last loses he was no longer motivated nor training to his capabilities. I’m a firm believer he can get back to 75% and I believe that defeats most top guys now .
