unfortunately this is true, im trying to picture fury or joshua playing rugby or weighlifting which is very popular in east euro countries, huge actually

I also think the pussification of the culture here has played into boxing being less popular + I think US folks in general what things their way & boxing isn't Burger King with sh^t like that so the sport has less appeal to more folks than ever in the US that ends up extending to less people being pushed or pulled into the sport.

Mainly doe it's the options available to big guys that make more sense to their parents at the age of learning the basics of a sport that is helping prevent the best US athletes getting into the ring.

And the fact that two of the best US HWs around today are a failed basketball player & a failed football player support that stance. And sh^t there are probably a couple guys on the scene that switched over late from another sport that I'm not recalling.
I started boxing late enough but I had shown to be much more competent than your average beginner. I'm not even much of a successful athlete outside of long distance running, it just seems boxing was always the sport to be doing for me. I think there are many athletes who could transition with much more success than myself. It's just a matter of boxing clubs getting the funding and popularity they need back. It should be more widely publicised that boxing isn't as dangerous as it's thought to be compared to other contact sports parents are readily willing to let their kids play.

Both leagues paid their players like **** back then. NFL players used to have day jobs in the off-season.

It wasn't until the late 90s-2000s that salaries there could compare to what the HW's in boxing were making in the 90s

Yea but if you're in the NFL your probably making $100k or something very respectable at the league minimum to millions. In boxing you can get a concussion in a $500 payday fight. The money is a big part of it.

And granted if you become a Tyson caliber guy you can make crazy money, but there are many more guys making respectable to less crazy but still pretty crazy money in these other sports usually.

500$ fights would be for the lowest of levels, they'd have to be old and out of shape journeymen fighting for that weeks food bill and rent. For hopeful young prospects they at least get paid a few grand, something the lower levels of even the most well respected sports their athletes would be lucky to do so. Take football for example (not American, soccer in your terms). They have the highest pay grades at the highest level. In the premier leagues of the big countries, even the lesser players get paid multiple grand a week. At the lower levels though it's pretty much all part timers, like in boxing.
Still doesn't mean a journeyman boxer can't make good money, it's been well documented that many of them make a decent living taking easy fights against prospects to teach them some tricks and give evaluations of fighters to promoters, they make good money from that. Boxing pays handsomely compared to most sports.
It just has an unearned bad reputation due to the head injuries which are observed just as much if not more often in other sports who don't even monitor their athletes for those injuries like combat sports do. Forceful impacts in ant sport present that issue, and in basketball, hockey and soccer most aren't even aware if they have one until it's too late and they've worsened the damage.

All the respect in the world to lower divisions, but at the end of the day, the Heavyweight division is the absolute KING of boxing. This is not disputable.

Tired of other country's having complete control of the division when not too long ago, America ruled the division with an iron fist. Gets depressing knowing America no longer has a grip on the division.

Is there any Americans that I should look out for that makes the future look bright and promising?
                dont do drugs fool!

Also, the US hasn't had a hold on the division for over 20 years now. The machine which produced so many great heavies is done, finished, it will NEVER recover, mark my words.

Heavyweight is definitely the blue ribbon division of boxing. Personally I have always liked the Welterweight and Middleweight divisions more. I like the blend of speed and power. As for America's chances to regain dominance in the HW division? I don't see it happening right now. 5 years from now it could be a different story. The balance of power is always shifting

Probably NEVER! The Most Talented and Athletic Kids are just never going to pick Boxing over other sports in America it is just never going to happen

That is not an excuse at all, I don't really do all that "Patriotic" Garbage for Boxing, I like fighters from all over the world. However, I've been noticed for Decades now how young people just don't give a Sh#t about boxing and that is a problem for the sport of boxing In General. The next generation is not going to watch boxing unless KSI or Jake Paul are boxing.

However, Millennials and Generation Z do seem to like MMA/UFC far more than Boxing which is why UFC seems to be thriving while Boxing is on a Rapid Decline. The next Superstars in Combat Sports are and will continue to be MMA Fighters, NOT BOXERS!

So basically, another great American Heavyweight might never come BUT I do like Jared Anderson who signed with Bob Arum. He has a ton of Raw Potential but of course has a long way to go. Also like Sonny Conto, he has the "LOOK" but we shall see how these young guys Develop. Both Very young, Anderson is only 20, Conto is 23 so they have plenty of time to Develop. America will always be represented in some way as much as some would love to get rid of all Americans which I don't see how that would be good for the sport but some fans feel that way

Strictly a niche skill sport with no endurance or strength training needed. Gotta stay sharp though or back to minor league pay.
