“Pac chose David Diaz instead of tougher competition against Campbell, who held unified titles.”

I said that the winner of Campbell vs Juan Diaz was never an option.

That Pac avoided EITHER of them in favor of David Diaz who was inferior to BOTH.

That shouldn't have been difficult for you to understand.

Campbell beat Baby Bull for the unified (WBA, IBF, WBO) A WEEK BEFORE David Diaz beat Montano on the Pac-JMM undercard.

There's no reason why Pac couldn't have fought Campbell next.

He chose the easier guy with one belt over a guy with three titles.
    It’s a clear contradiction bro...

You’ve literally said Diaz had already been promised the Pac fight prior to Campbell becoming champ. That’s the reason he fought Diaz...

I can just imagine you sitting there in your TMT hat, desperately thinking of threads that you can start to make Pacquiao look bad. Great sucess bud, you definately dont look like an even bigger mong than you did already

So you think Pac had his sights @ 147 already as soon as he stepped foot @ 135? Try to check out Pac’s interview after the Diaz about what he thought about moving to 147 at that time. I’m kinda lazy with posting links but you can search it yourself
        Nah son.

If you are going to speculation on what Pac "meant" to do as opposed to what he actually did, you're going to have to document that.

I don't need to "prove" what Manny's state of mind was regarding lightweight- his record does that.

His record shows he had a cup of coffee at 135, beat the weakest belt holder and moved on.

Makes sense because Manny had been rehydrating well past 147 for quite a few years by that time.

unless your're a big name during that time, arum will not match pac with someone who is not a top rank fighter. certainly not with a guy like nate campbell who was mostly know as a journeyman before he beat juan diaz. his ktfo loss to robbie ****ing peden still makes me laugh till now. besides campbell was no threat to pac if they fought so i don't see what the big deal is if he fought david diaz instead of campbell.

anyway, pac's next 2 fights were against non-top rank fighters but were big names in dela hoya and hatton.

            You clearly have comprehension difficulties.

The thread is about why Pac fought David Diaz instead of tougher competition at 135.

Folks like yourself gave all kinds of excuses why Pac couldn't have fought Campbell or Juan Diaz- other opponents, scheduling conflicts, etc.

Of course, it was in truth none of those.

Pac never had any intention of fighting Juan Diaz or Nate Campbell. The fighter who held 3 belts at 135 a week before Pac had his last fight at 130 was never an option because they had their sites on David Diaz instead.

            That's not a contradiction, that's fact.

They knew either Baby Bull or Nate would have 3 belts. Why then would they promise David Diaz a fight instead?

Just a question. Do you believe Campbell was a genuine threat @ 135 to Pac?

WTF kinda fanboy question is that? You're talking about a guy who had already lost to lesser talents than Campbell and went on to lose to a Jeff Horn. Genuine threat? LMAO!!!

A better question is this: if you are selling yourself as always looking for the best fights, why are you fighting the guy who clearly isn't?

You're asking why Pacquiao didn't fight the most difficult of the all belt-holders in his very first fight at 135? The question answers itself.

At the time, Arum gave Pacquiao three options:

Move up and face Diaz at 135
                  Marquez-Juarez winner at 130
                  Soto-Guzman winner at 130

Pac decided to move up, beat Diaz and then got the De la Hoya fight. Acting like Campbell and Diaz's names were in the mix is revisionist. At the time, it was no sure thing that he would even move up to lightweight.

You’re are the one failing to comprehend your own statement.

Where is your evidence that Diaz was actually promised the fight?

I was just pointing out that your conjecture created a contradictory statement.

Putting value on ABC titles is pathetic, they don’t mean sh**. You should be saying Pac should have fought Casamayor who was lineal champion at the time. Literally nobody has made that point so I’m not sure any of you were actually following boxing back then...

Not fighting Nate Campbell or Juan Diaz is hardly an indictment on Pacquiao’s career.

Do you feel Mayweather chose a weak champion choosing Baldomir over Margarito? Or choosing Gatti over Tszyu?

I don’t have a problem with those choices, but it feels like a lot of people in this thread have an agenda. Surely if you feel upset over Pac facing Diaz instead of Campbell you must be outraged that Mayweather fought Gatti and Baldomir over Tszyu and Margarito. Do you???
