What heavyweights in history are actually considered ATGs like ALI

He beat a guy who is arguably the second best heavyweight in the history of the sport and ended his historic title reign.
He’s one of five boxers in history to win the lineal heavyweight title twice.
He’s an all time great.

LMAO. The same Holyfield that lost to Moorer that was knocked out by a 45 y/o Foreman?Beating Holyfield twice is enough to make you an all time great. Holyfield is arguably the second best heavyweight of all time behind Joe Louis.
Tyson beat Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes. Larry Holmes is arguably the second best heavyweight of all time behind Joe Louis.
Holyfield isn't top 5 when it comes to his HW resume. He made up for it with his cruiserweight resume. And he was on HGH.
Spinks was a blown up middleweight. Holmes took that fight on 1 month notice after being out for almost 3 yrs. And he was like 40.Comment

A lot of you always forget that Josh won an olympic gold medal. That will boost his resume when it's said and done.Comment

- -We know where U keep U measure stick .Asking this because we need to set up a measuring stick to be able to justifiably add a heavyweight of this era. Personally I don’t see calling Fury ATG if he decides to retire after beating Joshua or vice versa it would be tough to call AJ an ATG even if he beats Fury.
Quiet man Ruiz whooped Field a new one and had Lewis pay him millions so he don't have to fight him and they would've whooped Ali too.Comment

Depends what criteria you use to determine if he's worthy. In his prime he had great hand speed, power footwork, could get inside and deliver great body head combinations. He was the youngest boxer to ever win a heavyweight title. He was a wrecking machine. However he lost against other champions after he started to have marital problems and he went downhill. The guy before the decline was an ATG. I can see your point though.Comment

So all heavyweights from the past are getting a pass for being stopped by underdogs, but you guys say Joshua can`t be ATG because Ruiz beat him.Comment

Lots of heavyweights are ATGs. Most of the great champions throughout history have at least some case for being an ATG across all divisions, and some are indisputable. Fury and Joshua are pretty close to heavyweight ATG status if one beats the other, and if they pick up a few more key wins, they can easily crack ATG status across all divisions.Last edited by bojangles1987; 05-19-2020, 04:36 PM.Comment

In my opinion all-time great means top 10 all-time in your weight-class.
So, all-time greats are guys who could credibly be considered all-time top 10.
For heavyweights that's
Ali
Louis
Lennox
Holmes
Marciano
Holyfield
Klitchko
Liston
Frazier
Foreman
Dempsey
Jack Johnson
Virtually any list of top 10 HW's all-time will have combination of these guys on there.
They are the consensus all-time greats.
No one fighting right now has a shot to supplant any of the guys on this list.
Tyson Fury is already an all time great. He’s one of five boxers in history to win the lineal heavyweight championship more than once.
He also won his first title from Wladimir Klitschko, who’s arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time (Joe Louis is the best heavyweight ever but Klitschko’s resume is as good as anyone outside of Louis.)
So if Joshua defeats Fury, which I don’t expect, Joshua is an all time great too.
Tyson Fury has 2 notable wins his entire career.
A 40 year old Klitschko.
Deontay Wilder, who may be an all-time puncher, is no where near all-time great.
Nobody else on his resume is even good, much less great.
And there's no way Klitschko's resume is as good as Ali's that has 4 Olympic gold medalists on it and 3 all-time great HW either in their prime or near it and a ton of Hall of
Famers like Norton, Patterson, and Moore.Comment
