Asking this because we need to set up a measuring stick to be able to justifiably add a heavyweight of this era. Personally I don’t see calling Fury ATG if he decides to retire after beating Joshua or vice versa it would be tough to call AJ an ATG even if he beats Fury.
What heavyweights in history are actually considered ATGs like ALI

Well done for finally posting something not about Canelo or GGG.
I’d say it’s a combination of ability, wins, resume, accomplishments and longevity.
You don’t have to have all 5 but most ATG’s score high in various categories.
Fury can potentially be an ATG. He has the ability, wins and accomplishments. He just needs a few more names on the resume and little more longevity.
AJ will never be an ATG. He doesn’t have the ability. Doesn’t have the wins. Doesn’t have the accomplishments, doesn’t have the resume, could potentially have longevity if he continues fighting the Pulev’s of the world but that’s about it. -
But give me a list of heavyweight ATGs. Tyson Klitchko Holmes Holyfield? Who?Well done for finally posting something not about Canelo or GGG.

Tyson Fury is already an all time great. He’s one of five boxers in history to win the lineal heavyweight championship more than once.
He also won his first title from Wladimir Klitschko, who’s arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time (Joe Louis is the best heavyweight ever but Klitschko’s resume is as good as anyone outside of Louis.)
So if Joshua defeats Fury, which I don’t expect, Joshua is an all time great too.Comment

Every lineal champion until the three/four belt era with the exception of Primo Carnera and Leon Spinks.
The three/four belt era champions who are all time greats Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Rid**** Bowe, Michael Moorer, Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir Klitschko.
There are probably a few other names that should be included in this list, like Ken Norton for instance.

Fury lost 1 round to Wlad
Fury lost 2 rounds to Chisora, stopped him in rematch
Fury Lost 3 rounds to Wilder, stopped him in rematch
Fury underdog going into all them fights excluding rematches. He is a beast.
Fought in 6 different countries
Won all his belts on away soil & has held every major belt.
AJ will be a walk in the park if Eddie ever signs that fight.Last edited by miniq; 05-19-2020, 11:11 AM.Comment

I don’t agree with you at all. Winning the lineal heavyweight twice? WTF? I far as I know just like Canelo (who Fury himself has mentioned as an example of lineal champs) Fury was also stripped of the ring magazine title not the lineal title. You can’t be stripped of lineal status, you have to lose it in the ring.Tyson Fury is already an all time great.
