The bottom line is this.

The WBC has written rules on how you go about becoming mandatory, rules Whyte and Hearn should have been well aware of.

Before August of 2019, Whyte turned down or sidestepped every offered opportunity to comply with these rules, going so far as to be in noncompliance of his own requirements to keep his Silver belt.

Was he stripped? Demoted?

No.

See, if you look at the rules, the WBC was extremely lenient with Whyte. How many fighters outright refuse ordered mandatory eliminators and yet keep their ranking and belts?

Whyte is where he is because of Whyte.

No one else.

And he is fortunate to be where he is in spite of himself.
