Lopez was lanky but he was not a "big" minimumweight. As I previously mentioned, he would sometimes weigh in way below the limit including late in his career. But he did in fact move up and claimed a belt immediately after unifications with Sanchez and Alvarez, and he had been willing to move up earlier against Carbajal. Not to mention he fought a top champ in Alvarez who was over a division heavier.

There's no reason why Pac would be a priority when he wasn't a popular fighter at the time and the two were 2 divisions apart with Pac holding the flyweight title for only 9 months before being knocked out then jumping up in weight.

Look how "drained" that is, looking Shredded and healthy at the weigh in.

You can't just say "drained" when an opponent moves down, you actually have to base it how they look in the weigh in and in the ring which Estrada performed better in the Gonzalez fight than Viloria fight.

Also, this is a drained fighter that looks like he is going to die.

During the coronavirus, there have been a lot of threads on boxers from the 1990s, yet I never see him mentioned.

He was amazing and deserves a thread.

Why are you bringing up Mayweather, Pacquiao and Roman Gonzalez in a thread that’s about Ricardo Lopez? You’re just coming into the thread to hate on the guys you don’t like (Lopez, Mayweather) and stan the guys you want to big up (Gonzalez, Pac). Nobody said anything about those guys. You’re making yourself look bad by saying ignorant things like Lopez didn’t challenge himself (He beat 10 world champs and one of them ruled 108lbs for 4 years straight, and the other was a dominant 2 division champion. Pac would’ve been a career defining fight at the time? What you mean when he got KO’d by Singsurat and no one outside of the Philippines had even heard of him. Not to mention he was 2 divisions, soon to be 3 divisions bigger. Just stop. You’re embarrassing yourself. Please don’t speak on a topic unless you are educated on it. That’s like saying Terence Crawford is ducking Canelo or Danny Jacobs. Lopez beat all the top guys in his division, two of whom went on to become great champions at Light Flyweight as well.

These Pac fans are so angry about Mayweather beating their hero that they bring him up and hate on him even when the topic has absolutely nothing to do with him. Either stick to the topic at hand or take your emotional hating to a thread that’s actually about Mayweather and Pacquiao. Lol.

It's just excuses. And Lopez's refusal to move up in weight despite having such size adds detriment to his legacy. Hell, he could have even fought a 19 year old Pacquiao back then had he moved up in weight and that would have been a career defining win.
Again, it's your story tell it anyway you want to.............

You name it, he had it and he was A-level fighter in all these departments.

If you're trying to achieve perfection in boxing that's the guy to watch. Unfortunatley though his era wasn't the greatest era for minimum weight so he just never had any memorable rivalries or tough fights so that overshadowed his skill level, that's why it's crucial to be ready to go out of your comfort zone and move up in weight to get the big fights. Without overcoming adversity, people won't give you the respect no matter how good you are.
Very good post I think you have some good points. At the same time i do have to point out he had a great rivalry with Rosendo Alvarez who moved up and became champion again after their fight. That guy was a monster and also an undefeated champion who knocked off a great champion who was 35-0 at the time (Chana Porpaoin).

He did beat some very tough fighters but was just a cut above them. Saman Sorjaturong went on to beat one of the best fighters ever at 108lbs (Chiquita Gonzalez) and made 10 title defences. Zolani Petelo and Will Grigsby where also very skilled fighters.

Truth is a lot of people and a lot of new boxing fans just don’t know about him or his career. Hardcore true boxing fans know he was a bad man, and Juan Manuel Marquez learned a lot from him you can see how similar their styles were. Difference is Lopez was even more polished and had KO power in both hands. Legendary fighter.

Ricardo Lopez fights were one of the highlights of the stacked Don King PPVs, actually.

Strawwweight or not he was brilliant to watch.
